Spare tire locating brackets

Pretty sure those are for locating the spare tire when it is raised. The tubular ones do not look substantial enough for tie downs. IMO

My spare rests on those if my memory serves me right. I suppose if you wanted to ditch the spare you could tie something to them..

You got me thinking...if i remove them, can fit a new 285 in the stock location instead of my worn 285? Looks like i have a weekend project.

At one time long long ago I figured out that those two odd pieces were for the spare.
I forgot ! The one that looks like a loop is quite an interesting design.

Anyway I just hit 105K miles and thought it was time for the every two year spare air up and check and cable lube.

Praying that I never have to change a tire, especially with my anti-theft rod and lock. Takes a day and a half of fiddling just to get the crank down stick in the right place.

Did notice some little black dot pits in the show side of the spare mag wheel. Some kind of corrosion pits. Like a swarm of tiny black ants, and they do not scrub out.
