Brake lights on when I turn the parking lights on.

Ok yeah long title.

So I had an interesting one tonight. Driving down the road I noticed my brake lights were still in, and no I was not on the brakes. They would not turn off no matter what I did.

I get gone and turn my lights off and everything goes off. Hmmm. So I turn my parking lights back on and boom the brake lights come on.

So I turn the parking lights off and everything goes off. Then I step on the brakes and the brake lights and parking lights come on. WTF!!!

Anyone got any solutions?

Stop and tail lights on

Seen this before. Somewhere a bulb is shorted. One filament touching another. Usually a 1057/3057 tail light. Replaced both tail lights or if applicable front turn/parking light bulbs. Problem solved.
Good luck. Doesn't happen with LED lights.

or taking the tail light assembly off the truck ..you can see lots of wires ..maybe some corrosion ...check at the wire loom / plug coming out of the body to see if the problem isn't coming from up front and contained at the bulb/ tail light assembly

Yup it was the bulb. Filaments on one side were touching each other.

I'd honestly upgrade to the 2014+ assemblies. Experiencing the brake lights malfunction on our trips through dark mountain roads was nerve wracking enough to switch.

Hi Mike,

Much like [MENTION=303708]moneypit9033[/MENTION] has theorized, you have a broken/burned Parking or Tail light filament! When it broke, it leaned over and is touching the Brake light filament, so it's energizing the Brake light circuit when the head-lights/Tail-lights are on!

I would do an inspection... start taking out the tail-lights in the rear; that's likely where you'll find the trouble because they're double filament bulbs, and are very easy to remove. There's a cover panel in the cargo compartment:

TAIL LIGHT ACCESS PANEL


GENTLY RELEASE ACCESS DOOR LATCH WITH POCKET SCREW-DRIVER: "See small notch for opening on lower left"


I think the 'top' socket is the Tail-light

"just check it!"

Wow. Very long post there buddy to educate someone that already said it was the bulb and knows how to change bulbs (and my blinker fluid too).
