Brake pad question, and yes I did a search....

I've got 83,000 miles on my 2016 and recently I noticed a very small squeak on cold braking when I go to work in the morning. Once they warm up no squeaks. Anyway, I got OEM pads and rotors to do the front end. Today I took the front tires off to measure the pads and on both sides the pads averaged about 6.5mm. My question is that enough pad to keep them awhile longer or should I just do the job and replace them? Thanks in advance.

How thick are the new OEM pads? Maybe just clean up and lube the caliper pins if all you had was a little noise.

that's probably around 50%. you could run them for quite a while yet.

The OEM pads are 11mm thick so I'll just clean everything up and wait. Thanks guys.

The rotors/pads may have glazed over which is giving you some noise. You could resurface the rotors and scuff up the pads and see how that does. You could also rebed the pads/rotors. To rebed:

1. Start with cold brakes.

2. Warm them up gradually with about 4-5 near stops with moderate pressure from about 50mph.

3. Rapidly Perform 6-8 Hard Stops (don't engage ABS) from about 70-10mph (DO NOT come to a complete stop).

4. Drive normally for a few miles to allow brakes to cool down. Avoid coming to a complete stop until brakes have cooled down.

5. Park it for several hours.
