Brake question

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to the 4runner scene. I purchased my 4runner about 3 weeks ago. When I inspected the front brake lines I noticed that they were cracking and I figured I would upgrade to the Stop-tech SS brake lines for the front and 1 for the rear.

Before I did my brake line upgrade I noticed the the 4runner would randomly lock up at low speed braking and sometime the ABS would kick in. Other times it drives fine with no issues when low speed braking.

So I changed the brake lines, new fluid etc. The brakes feel great I love the pedal feel. The 4runner still locks up randomly though and I was concerned that it does it worse some days and not at all on other days. With the new lines the lockup is more pronounced too. Is there a reason for this? I seen a few threads about the rear drums locking but it feels and sounds like the fronts are grabbing extra hard????

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.- Matt

My rear drums would lock up in my '02 Tacoma at low speeds when I had leaking axle seals and no extended diff breather which was likely clogged. I was able to narrow it down by driving in a gravel lot and trying to induce the problem.

what you explaining sounds like to right rear drums. Not to normal for fronts to lock up like you explain.

Hi guys thanks for the reply's. Yes I completed brake bleeding on all 4 corners, starting farthest away from the brake booster/reservoir. I looked at rear drums and can't see any fluid leaking from within the drums. Like I said it's very inconsistent. Tonight on my way to work the brakes worked flawlessly.

This issue is still happening. It only happens at low speeds when stopping at a stop light or stop sign. It only does it on dry surface. When it rains or snows it not present. When coming almost to a complete stop the rear locks up like I slammed the pedal down even though I didn't.
