It's very important to bed new brake pads in when new to get them to work proper and last and is the first thing I do when I get a new vehicle or change pads

Harper, for those of us poor unenlightened folks who are unfamiliar with the jargon or the process, could you explain a bit further re "Bed" the brakes? Thanks bud. Be safe.

At your own risk....This is how I do it and the steps need to followed pretty close so you don't warp your rotors. Where there is no traffic of course and be patient til you find a place where there isn't any .Go 50-60mph,brake hard but not hard enough to engage ABS down to around 5-10mph and immediately repeat 7 or 8 times in a row to really heat up the pads so they transfer pad material to the rotors.Let them cool.

It's that pad material on the rotors against the brake pad is where you get your bite for braking and make them last longer so the steel rotor isn't just wearing your pad away. Cruise for a little while(couple of miles) and stay off the brakes so they cool and don't come immediately to a complete stop with your foot on the brake on as it could warp the rotor if it super hot.

Sorry for the delay....

I have all the pictures from the install/replacement of my brake pads on my phone and going to upload it today through the Taptalk App. I will say unless you have done brake pad replacement before.... I would recommend highly going to a mechanic to see how its done first. Im still not 100% comfortable in re-placing them having witnessed and participated in the replacement. I will post a good visual reference for people to see, however I feel it would not be right to advise given my nonexistent mechanics background. :crutch:

HAWK makes a truck version of their pads called HAWK LTS.. i was going to buy these but i had Toyota throw on new front rotors and pads at 37k since they turned them when i bought it at 26k and they were warped to **** within a year.. so i'll be on the oem for quite awhile.. but when its time i'll be going HAWK LTS

Here is a visual reference for those wishing to replace their own brake pads. Please remember that after replacement you need to pump your brake at least 7-10 times or until it feels firm again. Seems obvious but you be surprised


Old pads with 70,000 miles on them. To be honest they still had plenty of life left in them and could of lasted me another good 10,000 or so.

haha... well when your such a great driver, you.... Just kidding :bowl:

I have done a fair bit of highway travel and when in city's etc... I always use the manual side of our tiptronic gear box for braking. Even "off road" I RARELY use the brake and always the "manual" side, allowing the engine to brake for me.
