Brakes done at 48,000miles, mmm new Tundra

Hi guys, I posted a while ago about my brakes intermittently surging/shuddering to a stop. At that time I only had approx 35,000 on my 2005. At that time I had it inspected and the dealer noted no abnormal wear on the rotors and the pads were only 50% worn. The problem got progressively worse, and after a 1500 mile round trip to florida this week I took it in for a full detail and asked them to inspect the brakes again. They recommended turning the rotors and fitting new pads, although there was still 5mm on the pads. I went ahead an did it, and they're good as new with good progressive feel.

At the same time I rented a new Tundra double cab 5.7. OMG, it is insane and as quick as they make it out to be. For anyone who hasnt driven one yet, go and do it. I simply couldnt stop thumping it and blowing everything around me into the bushes. An immense feeling of confidence overcomes you when driving something that big that just destroyes everything else on the road! Aside from that, the steering, brakes, refinement, build qaulity etc was excellant. It drives like you expect a Toyota too, precise and nimble. It's highway stability in crosswinds really impressed. The only quality issue I can fault is the grade of plastics used on the interior, it looks as good as a 4Runners, but its rock hard tacky plastic that you get in most american makes. On the ride and perfomance side the only fault I have was a choppy ride on uneven surfaces (but you got to expect that when unladen), and that the back wheels kept lighting up!!

I sat in a Max. cab ( i think thats what its called 4 dr. extended back seat) The interior room is fricken HUGE in that thing !!!! it had a short box. Very awesome truck to say the least. I can wait to see one with a little lift and tires/rims.

I too hate the rock hard hollow plastic stuff , but there didn't seem to be as much of it as in a domestic.

Just a suggestion, but I had a problem with my 2000 Dodge Ram eating front rotors/brake pads. Really got old after a while.

So, after a couple sets of Awful Zone cheapo lifetime pads and rotors, I shitcanned em and ordered me something decent.

Powerslot rotors. These things are nice!!! They are coated so that the non-braking surfaces do not rust up like the stockers or cheapies. They've been on my truck since last summer, and still look brand new. I coupled those new rotors with some Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads, and together they stop my Ram like it's never stopped before. Brake fade was cut at least in half when stopping from high speed quickly. Brake dust is almost non existant now. In fact, I havent washed my truck in two years, and my fingerprints in the old brake dust on the rims were still there last week when I took it to the car wash to scrub it off for the ins guy to look it over after the hail damage we got two weeks ago. And those fingerprints were made last August or so of 2006 LOL.

Deja vu

Last week I was at the dealership, had my breaks done at 80K, and checked out the Shiny new Tundra on the showroom floor. MMMM... very nice.

And my rotors had been warped for some time. They turned them and that annoying shimmy when stopping is now gone.
