Brand new 2020 screen scratched?

Yesterday I was driving for the first time with sun directly hitting the screen, and I noticed scratches all over.

I've attached photos using my phone flash to show the scratches. It doesn't appear in "ambient" light.

Are these scratches, or just markings that will come right out? I tried rubbing with a dry microfiber cloth, but nothing.

I haven't done anything besides touch it with my fingers yet! Don't have any hand jewelry either.

I can't really think of a good reason why that would be scuffed up. Doesn't look like it will just wipe off, something abrasive seemed to rub up on it. Almost like someone tried to clean it with a sanding block.

Well the truck is brand new, I think I've driven it... 3 different days so far? Emailed my dealer. Not happy :(
 
IMO it's the sun light reflecting off of what ever was on the cleaning rag that they used. Clean it with an electronic screen cleaner and see if it helps.
 
Most likely the dealer’s “detailer” did it cleaning up the interior with a rough cloth before you took delivery. It should only be cleaned gently with a microfiber cloth.

Emailing is useless. Take it in to the dealer and show them in person. Demand a new unit or screen. Be willing to settle instead for some amount of money or service.

Right! I'd say.

Man the screen on my entune nav is actually pretty tough, I have no idea what the 2020 is like but I would think it would be similar (maybe not though as the bezels show no damage). That pic she posted looks like fine sand in the cloth and boy it would take some pressure if it were the same screen material as mine.

I've seen speculation in another topic (here have been a lot of topics) that the scratches aren't so much scratches but rather scuffs in a protective layer on the screen. I believe someone was able to rub that layer off. For me, the screen protector came with a little swab thing that did a good job of hiding things, at the very least. You'll probably notice an increase in responsiveness from the screen. I'm not the only one who has.

Nope, wont come out. As little as dry skin will do those scratches. Before they replaced mine I simple touched it(lightly) and it scratched more. When the shop looked at it 1st they dried microfibre and it did not come out, then they tried some light compound that should have handled it....made it worse.
Damn shame they put something like this on the market. My lastest runner they had 6 gray ones on the lot. 1st one had zero marks and I made sure they did not detail or touch it. Got home, cleaned with microfibre, let dry and put on protector.

C'mon man - you "touched it lightly" and it scratched? Lol.
 
I know it looks like this is not the case, but I've seen plenty of times where there's a layer of plastic on the electronic device which is put there for protection by the manufacturer. If this is the case, you can simply remove it to solve your problems. I've had several of these undetectable layers on various things for years, only to catch an edge before it became visible. Worth looking for before you take it in.

Yes, I work for a living and hands may be on the abrasive side but I've had nav in cars since around 2004 and go through vehicles often. never saw a screen so sensitive as this one. try it on yours, if not test drive a 20 and screw up someone elses screen.
On other rides ive wiped them down with paper towels etc never had an issue, this one if it has dust, even micro fibre can scratch.
Not a big deal, learned on my 20 pro the hard way, on my orp I knew better and slapped on a protector day 1

Man, I gotta get one of those screen protectors for mine. It’s even “anti-explosive”!

I didn't know about this issue until last week when I saw the other thread. I ran out to look at mine and it had a few scratches, but nothing over the top.

I ordered the screen protector immediately and installed it when it came in. I can't much speak to increased responsiveness, but I definitely have more peace of mind
 
What’s up with the new 8 inch screen material, why so soft?
My 2018 with the 6.1 inch screen, over 2.5 years - no screen protector and no scratches.
 
FYI as a bit of an update - I brought it into the dealership and someone from their service came out to check on screen... he did say it's a pretty delicate screen and the scratches will happen and no they won't come out, but also acknowledged there was a bunch of scratching on it.

We went to the one on display in the showroom and it had basically zero scratches. It had one small area of obvious scratching, but also a finger print nearby and it really looks like someone twisted back and forth making the scratches (whether intentionally or not)

They said they were gonna contact Toyota and get back to me. At least it's been noted that the scratching is definitely there, and doesn't match their own car on display... so I can and will push where necessary.

good to know. Perhaps Toyota will offer some kind of recall or tsb on these 2020 screens. Free screen protectors maybe?
