Brand new owner, need to know some things.

So far so good on my new purchase of '05 SR5 V6 w/ 29k. I bought the ride for many reasons, but one of them was to tow. Upon looking under the hood, I searched for hoses that might come from the tranny into the radiator. Well, I see many hoses coming into what could be the condenser as well as the radiator. Could any of you out there tell me specifically what I am looking for? If I don't have the cooling lines, I plan to install some by this spring.

If cooling lines mean (transmission and oil cooler) the V6 engine is not equipped with them from the factory. They do come standard on the better V8 engine.

Like they said, the V6 doesn't have an external optional tranny cooler.

The stock tranny cooler is internal to the radiator. The lines are the 2 small diameter hoses going to fittings on the driver's side of the rad (next to the battery; above the large diameter lower rad hose.)

Thanks LV4R! Sweet pics and helpful advice. So lemme get this straight, the stock trans cooling system is built into the radiator and you added an external cooler using the same lines? If thats the case, that's a smart and simple way to not only tow, but also to add life to your auto trans, since we all know heat kills.

I take from your past post that you add extra cooling capacity from the stock capacity by doing this add-on.

I also can't seem to find where the trans fluid is added. I'm going to my buddy's tonight to take off the v6 cover and have a look around (inspect air cleaner, ect.) so maybe I'll find it there. If you have additional advice, please share. I appreciate how helpful you all are. After all, these things are expensive!

As for the obligatory pics, I don't have a digi camera, so picture a Pacific Blue Metallic SR5 4WD with a luggage rack, '05 color coded (seriously, I will post pics when I can).

Yes that is exactly how it is from the factory on the v6. If you get a v8 with the tow package it comes with a factory external trans cooler. Since I tow 5000+ I added the trans cooler for extra insurance and piece of mind.

Unfortunately you will not find a trans fill in the engine bay on the 05+ because it is a sealed transmission and the fill and drain are on the transmission itself. I never added any trans fluid after I installed the cooler because when I did it I did not lose more than an ounce of fluid and the cooler does not take much more trans fluid from the system. So far so good with it installed.
