Break question?

I was wondering how many miles most people have been getting on average on there factory breaks. I know it really depends on driving styles. I have a 2005 SR5 4WD with about 75,000 with the original breaks. Is this normal?

Wayyyyy too many variables here. But over the course of the 6 or 7 Toyotas I've owned, anything less than 75,000 miles on brakes for me is ABNORMAL with about 100,000 miles more the norm. And over 150,000 miles is not unheard of (and that's on an old Celica DD that wasn't a highway car).

i have 60000 km on my 05 4runner (new) and has 50% on the front and 60% on the rear. Plus you can always check by looking at the pads to see how much rubber is left on them.

i expect to get over 60k out of mine. then ill do a big brake kit at that time

hah sorry i know they're not rubber, its ceramic or whatever friction material compound used in the pads.

your car woudl eat through the rubber so fast... !!

Absolutely normal if you are a decent driver and do not tow a lot. And by decent, I mean you don't drive right up to a stop sign or red light before applying the brakes, tailgate-braking, or trail-braking in corners.

If you've gotten to 75k without replacing them, and aren't getting fade (soft pedal), warped rotors, or squeeling, then you're likely doing just fine in the driving department since these 4Rs are relatively heavy beasts given their "mid-size" size. The Toyo-site lists the curb weight of my V8 Limited 4WD as 4530lbs - that's like 400 lbs or so more than my Tundra's listed curb weight!!

My '00 Tundra is only on its 2nd set of brakes and it is towing something about every 3rd or 4th time I crank it, and it has 130k miles on it so far. And that's with disc brakes up front and drums out back.
