Not sure if this is what happened to the OP, but in my case, I somehow lost one pad, and had the caliper piston come out of the bore enough that all the fluid was pumped out in less than a minute by the ABS pump. I should also note that the brakes were making noise for several days prior to the failure, and I had already ordered replacement calipers, rotors, and pads, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to fix them before that happened because of my schedule. I was just happy that I didn’t need to replace that expensive master cylinder assembly!

This is exactly what happened to my wife’s car! The shop we took it to first that gave us the $8000 quote was Commercial Tire, my family and I have been talking our vehicles there for 10+ years and hadn’t had a single issue with them until now.
I found out much later from my wife (which would have made me instantly know that the quote was BS), that they didn’t even pull it into the shop or put it on a lift before giving her the quote.

You say it was Commercial Tire, BUT your location says "North Pole", unless you do actually live in North Pole Alaska which I doubt has a Commercial Tire store, it does not help others here avoid possibly being scammed by the location you took your T4R, just to be fair Commercial Tire have many stores the NW USA and I doubt very seriously if they all are as deceitful as the location you took yours too since they aren't ran by the same people, where exactly are you located and if there's more than one Commercial Tire store there which one?

You really should go back to the Commercial Tire and speak directly to the manager and explain you've been a long time customer and don't appreciate the apparent scam. Show him the repair bill and then ask him what he would do in your case - call the main office, ask for a couple free oil changes, write to your local investigative reporting source and have them do a story, etc..
Unfortunately, all shops are sales oriented so mechanics are under pressure to upsell services. This is obviously an extreme case and maybe the manager doesn't know they are pushing this hard or maybe there is even something going on behind the managers back that is providing some financial benefit to some employees.

Whoops! Forgot to update my location! I moved about 6 months ago and haven’t been on in a while. The shop is Commercial Tire in La Grande Oregon.
I already talked to the manager, who is apparently pretty familiar with my family seeing as we have been going there for a while. He said he was completely unaware that that had happened, and agreed that $8000 was an absurd quote. He said that he appreciated me telling him about this and that he would deal with everyone involved first thing in the morning. I guess time will tell if that happens...
