Brembo rotors... but what pads? Akebono or Brembo

About to pull the trigger on some Brembo rotors (not slotted) (297/11.69).

Have seen posts that Ake' pads have been picked for Brembo rotors. Why is that a fav rather than going also with Brembo for pads?

(FYI, 4Wheel Parts shop does Power Stop Z23 all the time. But said Brembo are better.)

I use that combination Brembo rotors (not slotted)09.B461.11, and Akebono ceramics. Very pleased. Akebono cause good reputation, no other specific reason.

Akebono +1. Probably the best pads I have used on all the Toyota I have owned, and that includes OEM.....

I've used both brembo and akebono pads.

Akebono Pro-Act ceramic, hands down.

my Brembos dusted like crazy. Akebonos produce very little to no dust

unless akebeno has changed the pads in past 4 years, I was not that thrilled with them, and they dusted a lot over stock, in my opinion. However I drove lots of hills and heavy brake use. They were ceramic, but not the newest version PRO-ACT . So maybe not a good comparison.When I did my TBU I went with Toyota pads. My new to me 2001 has Toyota pads and brakes feel good.

Another vote for Akebono PRO-ACT pads, I have them with Stoptech/Centric rotors TBU 231, 2.5 yrs now

I have the Akebonos. No comparative data but I’m pleased with them.

Look into PBR Heavy Duty pads. I run them with my Brembos and they have serious grab.

I would upgrade instead to the Tundra brakes instead of going Brembo rotors for the 15" wheels.


What you'll need:
1. 16" or 17" wheels and tires - because of the offset, some 16" wheels will have interference issues with the 231mm Tundra brake calipers.
2. 1999-2005 Tundra brake calipers - 231mm or 199mm calipers
3. 1999-2005 Tundra brake rotors and brake pads
