Brighter backup lights

I tried LED's and just couldn't get good output, went with these and never going back Philips GY6.35 50w @ 880lm each.

I recently ordered a handful, 6 was less than $30 shipped.
I plan to use them as "rock" lights under my wheeler, and a pair on the back of my trailer for reverse lights. I also put one in the cab, tied into the dome light, so it comes on with the doors. they are only rated at 75 lumens, but they are VERY bright.



I don't have any particular brand or style in mind. I would choose flood lights, over spot lights tho.

ive been running these for a while now, and I have to say, DO NOT buy these. they are crap.

when they work, they are very bright. but out of 8 that I ended up buying,3 have failed. the backing plate has become delaminated from the face. when that happens, the lights lose their internal connection and stop working. its just a matter of time until the rest fail. I will be looking for something else.

They look like an awesome option for when I am backcountry in the mountains.

Being I am not a techy type person can you tell me:
do you have to do any modifications or are these plug and play
do you have to worry about heat
would these blind people in a parking lot
how is the view from the back up camera using these

Yeah, I tried that once and they were still loose. Also, tried soldering them in with some success (using 55W).

But, I finally went back to using LEDs.

I would like a brighter, whiter bulb, something around 5K~6K. Can't seem find exactly what I want without going to exterior backup lights.

Not sure, I had no issues. I also have exterior LED cubes mounted to the frame underneath and 55W driving lights mounted on either side of the rear hitch. I really don't think there is away to get the amount of light most of us want from just replacing bulbs.

I tried soldering an 894 fog light bulb, and the leads get hot enough to melt solder when the bulb is on. I don't recommend it. Lead-free solder melts at a higher temperature, so it might work slightly better, but I still probably wouldn't do it.

I ended up using some crimp connector sockets, cutting half the socket off, stuffing the extra space with copper wire, and crimping it with pliers. Not ideal, and I don't know if I trust it. But it's held up for a few months. 894 bulbs at 37.5 watts are only a bit brighter than stock. Maybe twice as many lumens, but when you are talking light output doubling doesn't make that much of a difference. Not really enough to be worth it. There are similar 50-ish watt bulbs available, but I'm worried about the extra heat in a socket that's not designed for it.
 
Try VLEDs. I have them and they're wicked bright. I also have VLED brake lights and they're still bright enough to see over the brake lights.
 
My plan to make the stock lights brighter.... use Diode Dyanmics tail as turn (LED tails only) so I can take the orange turn signal and turn it into a extra reverse light. So then you have four reverse lights in the stock tail light... then replace all four with bright white LEDs... I bought the kit but haven't had a chance to hook it up. I already have all of the LEDs.
 
ive never seen it done before but how about mounting an led light inside at the top of your back window?? when you need the extra light just crack your window throw the switch

i have been thinking of doing this on mine but wanted to see it done first
