My only experience I have driving on snow and ice is when I drove from Sac to Lake Tahoe after they opened back up the 50 after a break from a snow storm.
Snow tires (not studded) are amazing! I was watching a vid of a 2wd with snow tires and a 4wd without snow tires. Accelerating , braking, turning. Snow tires made all the difference. I don't have to deal with snow every year so it was an eye opener for me.
Dedicated snow tires really are amazing, I run all terrains that do well enough in the snow but they are nothing compared to a dedicated snow tire. Even rear wheel drive cars are capable in the snow with the right tires
