Hit a light stantion (concrete) while navigating a parking lot. First insurance claim in nearly fifty years!

Presently awaiting completion of insurance estimates. Yes it's driveable - mostly broken plastic and the torn off aluminum bumper.

Well glad no one was injured but you gotta give us a little more! From the photos it looks like it was light outside and not a lot cars in the parking lot, is that one of those sketchy light poles that jumps out and attacks cars? :rofl: Kidding aside planning to go back with stock parts or change up the front end a bit?
 
A little too much shnapps?? What a bummer. Go easy on yourself man. That looks about 2500 to 3k in damage. What are the estimates??
 
Sorry to hear it, Ron, but glad you're OK. My sister-in-law did the same thing years ago in a pickup with no airbags. Broken nose and two black eyes were the result.

Pretty sure it was one of two things:
1. Trying to set a world record of being the oldest guy to do 50 doughnuts on a dry parking lot in the daytime or
2. Telling his wife to "Hold my beer and watch this!"

Just kidding Ron lol. If I were you and lived your lifestyle of staying off road as much as you do I would just get the insurance check and buy an ARB bumper and use the leftover money to get you some new shocks. ARB doesn't make the prettiest bumper but they make the best for off road. Glad you're OK!
 
Believe it or not - The parking lot was nearly empty.
I was making a long slow left turn as this parking lot seems to have all the spaces oriented the wrong way - as I was turning (probably less than 5mph - I turned to look at a truck entering the lot - turned head back around just as the damned pole jumped out and got me!

Drove 1/4 mile to my insurance agent - got the claim phone number.
Drove 1/4 mile back to Fallon Auto Mall (Local Ford and Toyota dealer).
Checked it in for estimate - will know on Monday. Will probably have work done there.
They drove me the 1/4 mile back to the same parking lot where I had the accident - Went in for the breakfast which I had intended all along.

If you are wondering -> yes Fallon is a very small town. I would probably have had Dolan Toyota in Reno do the work but that would mean a 80 mile tow.

The wait for the estimate is so that a body shop that the dealer works with wants to check out any possible damage to frame and steering parts.

I'm going to have it repaired STOCK. I have never ever come across errant light poles out in the desert mountains where I'm usually found.

It really pissed me off that I even hit this damned thing - maybe it had a bit to do with being 75 years old - a bit less able to turn neck as far and perhaps less peripheral vision?

Glad you got your breakfast in the end. What kind of truck were you looking at that caused all of this? Hopefully something pretty epic...

It happens. I briefly forgot that I was a 32 year old adult back in the spring and went off roading in my FR-S. Much pride was hurt that day. I should have known better than to hot dog on summer tires in 20°F temps in a tail happy RWD car.
 
If you are interested I have the bumper off my trail I would let go of for really cheap. It would need to be sprayed since its grey right now.

I also have the inner aluminum bumper I would be willing to let go of too.

Thanks for the offer - but I'm not going to do the repairs myself. Just going to let the Toyota dealer and his body shop make it look like new.
 
This is a clear case of having 4WD engaged on dry pavement doing parking lot turns.


Sorry man, at least you're ok, and 2015 is over. And I respect the humble approach to your thread.


I almost sacrificed my Honda Accord in college for a cheeseburger. Pulled out of a drive through in the parking lot, my cheeseburger, still wrapped, fell into the passenger side foot well. I was reaching over to grab. Luckily I looked up and was about 2 seconds from coasting into a light poll.

How did your air bag not go off - or did it? Glad to hear you're ok. Years ago I backed my Dads Fairlane into a 55 gal drum that was protecting a sign pole. It collapsed in the center and put a big dent in the trunk. My Dad thought it was pretty funny!
 
She was smoking HOT:girl: she gave me mouth-mouth and happily ever after... along those lines would have gone with.

Just kidding! I posted my backing into a tree and denting my rear hatch lid months back. That's all fixed now.
