Broke my front CV Axle AKA Half Shaft???

Broke my front CV Axle on my 2016 TRD Pro. Was doing a little trail run at Holy Jim this winter break. I ran her through the mud, drove by the creek, no rock crawling or trail bombing....

Is this common? I can imagine this happening with a ton of torque being placed on the traction wheel with the inability for the wheel to turn. I am not sure how it happened and not even sure what I need to avoid so it does not happen in the future.

Possible that mud got into the seals and your axle bound up. So So and I both got mud in there and it popped our axles out enough to make them leak after we played on Afton. Did the shaft actually snap or did you just rip a boot?

I didn't even know that's possible.. How do you avoid that?

OP - I would hose it down real good before taking it to the dealer. Should covered though.

Im just guessing on the broken one, on mine the slop was thick and there must have just enough articulation to allow it to get in there. Wasn't much. I cleaned up the seals, popped the axle back in, and it hasn't leaked since.

DannyLlama Since, I work for Toyota they are fixing it gratis so that is cool.

Drunner97 I was just more worried about preventing this in the future.

The boot looks like it is intact. Although, it does seem some what broken but it isn't sheared off or anything.

The only thing I can think of was hitting a rut and having it torqued in the wrong direction. The mechanics will let me know how bad it is. Thanks for the input guys!

Got my rig back today and the CV axle was busted. I drove home on the damn thing but since it was not in 4 Wheel it was a non issue. Not even sure how the damn thing did not fly off during the turn in Santiago Canyon.

The Mechanic said this happens a lot when you are going 3 wheel when offroading the wheel in the air is spinning and when it makes contact it is too much torque and it snaps.

IDK??? Does that seem plausible to you guys? Would we snappin these mutha every outing we go on???
