Broke my icon shocks!!

View attachment 212057So this happened the other day, and I haven't taken it off-road since I put them on. I wonder if it was because they were standard length shocks and I was running the long travel metal tech springs.. Anyways time to fix up the rear end..

Plenty of people are running "standard travel" shocks with the MT Long Travel springs.

Is that a charge port on the side of the shock or is that where it broke? Never seen that before.

Wow that is interesting.

My Icons are messed up too. I have to send them in to Icon.
Bought them in October of 15.

It leaked out last weekend when i took the 4runner off road.

they switched them to schrader valves when I got them rebuilt

I am uneducated in some of this stuff... but it really looks like the shocks unscrewed themselves... My shocks will spin if you really grip them, but i don't mess with them.

I had the shocks break at full flex however Since you are running a rear sway bar you couldn't flex as much as I did since the sway bar limits the travel
That being said the standard shocks I would think are under more stress since they are the limit of the suspension travel

do you think these will work fine? or do I need to do metaltech specific.. just got a *****in deal on these and am debating pulling the trigger in the next couple minutess

not sure yet but it looks like it split straight off even though there are threads.. also the same thing happened to a couple other peoples shocks ive noticed doin some research.. I just ended up ordering the 2.5 icon reservoir right now instead.. ill probably get the 2.0 sent back to icon and have them rebuilt. and the sway bar links i bought off someone that makes them on t4r.. I love them!!
what ever happened with your icons getting fixed?

I currently am still running 5100's with my MT LT coils with no issues (only 8.59" of travel), but will be replacing them with OME 60071L's which allow for 11.26" of travel with a compressed length of 15.23" thus not requiring bump stops to limit up travel.

so the 3" drop bump stop is required for those shocks than correct? I wanted to call metaltech but everything is closed right now.

I have the bump stop extension and don't notice any limits, actually they help my tires not hit the top of the wheel well when the tires are stuffed

[MENTION=75144]crashman[/MENTION] In theory, you really shouldn't rub unless you are running over 33's which you are right at the limit with 295/70/17's.

in the mean time....
Trying to get a deal on the icon 2.5 extended travel with remote reservoir CDCV coil overs... I have to get something to replace the one that is blown out, else i will be riding a bicycle everywhere.
