broken heater

heater doesnt work so i took it to my mechanic to check it out and he said it was a "heater valve"? anyone know what this is? he said its somewhere near the firewall. anyways... he said the part is about 100 bucks and labor 80. if i got the part myself is this something i could do? anyone know where i can find the part?

It looks pretty easy to do yourself. Not sure, I've never done it myself. It controls the amount of coolant that flows thru the heater core

The part is only about 30-40 bucks and what ever coolant you might need and labor??

The valve is located on the pass side upper firewall. You can't miss it. It looks something like this one.
