Broken o2 sensor stud

Attempted to replace my bad o2 sensor today and ended up breaking the stud off. Now i have 1 stud holding my o2 sensor stud and an obnoxious exhaust leak. How the heck can if fix it to where i have two bolts holding my o2 sensor on. I was thinking of just using a self taping on the broken stud but with it being a tight spot in there i do not have many options as far as fixing it. Thanks for any and all help.

Heat, PB Blast, and a set of vice grips should get that broken stud out, though I don't know the 3.0 and you may have to pull the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe or wherever it is to get the right angle on it.

I *think* hes talking about the 02 sensor right before the cat, I dont think the veze had them on the manifold (maybe in cali?).

If so, the studs are welded to the pipe, and a nut holds the O2 sensor on.. I had the same thing happen to my 92 when I was in school. We ground it clean, and welded a new stud on. Any exhaust shop should be able to to do that for you if you dont have the means.

What Hyde said. A muffler shop can fix that pretty quick, and install the new O2 sensor at the same time.

Should be a relatively cheap visit.

Would getting a right angle drill and running a self tapping stud into the broken stud work? I am just trying to avoid the local muffler shop because they screwed up welding in my muffler.

So after looking at the exhasut I am probably gonna unbolt the section of pipe from the header. then grind the broken stud smooth and tap the bunge and just put some short bolts in it. Any thoughts or suggestions on that idea?

My muffler shop charged me $20 to do this and install the new sensor. Money well spent.

Doesnt really HAVE to be a muffler shop. Anybody with a welder can do it. If you dont like your current place, Im sure there are a tons of other places that will do it.

I would not put a self tapper in there.

And the decision is....

So after much deliberation and a look on advance auto, I just decided to replace the entire front pipe with a full replacement from walker. brand new pipe with new o2 fitting and all. My pipe is in bad shape as is so a replacement was probably my best bet. Thank you all for your insight and wisdom. That is the main reason I enjoy this site so much.
