Broken/seized skid plate bolts

What is the easiest way to remove these broken/seized bolts? This pic isn't from my truck but it's a good illustration of the same problem I'm facing. Actually 2 of the 3 bolts which hold up the front end of the skid plate are like this. The bolt head is sheared off with the remaining threaded portion still stuck in the hole. I recently bought the vehicle and just noticed this now. If I can somehow remove them I will definitely apply some antizseize compound on the new threads, generally it seems a bit rusty in the vicinity. I'm a bit nervous with only the 1 bolt holding up the front of the skid plate.

You could try a bolt extractor, but if they broke, they are probably seized in there pretty good. The easiest way is just to drill them out (appropriate size for the tap you'll need to retap the hole), then run a tap through to clean up the threads. If you mess it up while drilling, you can always go up to the next size bolt.

you could also try vice grips, see if you can grip that last one.

I had the same problem and did exactly this.....and when you re-install it.....make sure you coat it real good with anti-seize!

By the way. That is not the only bolt holding it up. There are 2 larger bolts in the middle recessed in too.

I'd start by drenching them in PB Blaster. Use a straw nozzle to direct the goods through those holes so the threads get the benefit from the top down. Let it work, don't force them...
They might be too far gone already, but if you can coax them out it'll beat trying the drill/extract/tap method which is bound to end in fail.

If you have a small propane torch, you can heat up the area and use a bolt extractor with ease.

Mine is only held one by bolt on the front, ive taken mine through hell and back in these snow and icestroms too. It's had 1 bolt since i got it, and when i put my new skid on installed with 1 bolt again, works great.
