Broken Window Quote

As you may or may not know my car just got broken into 2 nights ago. I need to go get the window fixed ASAP, and I'm trying to save as much money while maintaing a good quality window.

The thief broke the wing part of my rear passenger window. If you don't know waht the whing is, think of the rear windows, and notice that it is divided into 2 parts, the big motorized part that rolls down, and the smaller part that looks like a wing that does not move up or down, the thief broke the small wing.

I called in to the dealer he gave me a ballpark estimate of $200. Does this seem fair? Has anyone else had experience with repairng the same window?

that sounds about right to me. Especially if you got a bunch of quotes in the same range. Keep in mind that getting a rock chip filled usually costs $25 - $30 per chip. Windshields are usually around $400-$500 I believe.

Ah, I see. Perfect timing too. The rain has let up as the sun is out as of right now (I work in the financial district). The reason I asked where is because my uncle has been needing to replace one of the small windows on the back of his Taco (has a crack from who knows what). Anyway, good luck with the new window and let us know how the repair goes.

Yah, was about to schedule it, but Dad wants to check in with his mechanic friend first.. so I might have to wait till Saturday or something.

Just got it fixed. A person from Glassmaster in daly city somewhere came to my place, fixed it in like 30 minutes. $140 with tax + a small tip.

I'm satisfied. Seems like a good sturdy glass with a lifetime warratny.

i had to break my own wing window to get into my car whern someone locked the keys inside on a camping trip. its cost me 130 to get a new one installed. and that included replacing the weather stripping that had broke in the process.

make sure whoever does it gets the right tint. theres two different shades toyota produced in the wing.

Vandalism should be covered under your comprehensive coverage. You probabyl have either $100 or $500 deductible. Which is it? :awais:

By the way, it's OT, but if you do chip or break a windshield it is usually replaced for free with no deductible on most insurance poilicies.

My deductible is $1000

One of my friends brought up that if I said I told my insurance ocmpany that I had a lot of stuff, such as an iPOD, labtop, and other stuff, the insurance company will replace them all. Don't know how true this is...

Most people have comprehensive with full glass, but it might not be worth it for $140 to have a claim against you. As for your personal items, your homeowner's policy (if you have one) usually covers you for that. I would only claim what you actually had in the truck though. Did you make out a police report?

Yah I believe we have homeowner's insurance. Will they cover a $300 ipod though?
I'm pretty sure it's covered if you have the receipts for everything. It all depends on your deductible and whether or not you want to make a claim for a small amount. It may raise your insurance cost next year. The insurance companies want to sell your insurance but then they punish you for using it. Check with the company that holds your home owners policy.
