Browsing music on my 2012 t4R entune

Hi guys,

i suppose i shouldnt be surprised about something not working as advertised. In this case i use to have a iphone 4s and entune in my t4r treated music normally. I could browse music on the phone when the usb was connected by artist, album, song or playlist.

I switched to an android based HTC one. great switch imo, however i used their utility to migrate my music from itunes to my phone.

the problem i have now is that all the entune unit will do now is list every song by name in alpha order.

Thats it. I cannot browse by artist, playlist or album.

I'm new to android and i'm hoping someone here has some music wisdom for me so i can setup my music correctly on entune.

HTC puts all the music in a folder structure called:
(phone root)Mobile\music\c\users\username\music\itunes\itunes media\music\(all folders of artist\albums\songs)

There's a Music folder at the root of the phone but putting the music there doesnt change the results.

I know I can't help you with this problem, but I can tell you that I've had my share of the same issues with my ipod "via USB" e.g., scrambled playlist (evxzto):wtf: Or "program Material Not found"; even the fidelity is often of poor quality! For Now, I've gone back to C.D.'s. :moping:

I'll be watching this post to see what happens, hopefully you'll get some answers.

When I plug in my S3 thru the USB jack, the entune starts to play the 20 or so system sounds used for keystroke feedback, incoming text messages, and the like, in an endless loop.

Same here, but only when connecting through BT while the vehicle is moving.

Select "All albums first" then "All artists", your new playlist will play by album names including all songs in it. Same is true if you select "All artist" then "All albums" it'll play artist in alphabetical order instead of songs. Had same problem unill figured it out. I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replys. I'll try the last suggestion. However I have been choosing different sort options from the menu and all I ever get is the all songs in alpha order result.

I don't even see the playlist option.

To create your list:

Select: "Browse By" > "Artist" > "All Artists" > "Albums" > "All Albums" > Hit first song > the rest will play in alphabetical order for artists instead of songs. All songs in each album will be played in proper track number order.

Clear as mud? I hope it helps.

I had a similar problem with the entune system in one of my other cars, with an android phone, I deleted the entune app from the phone then reinstalled it and it works perfect now.

I've tried everything listed so far and no luck. any idea how to create a file so that entune will see the artists/albums in addition to the songs?

So I called Toyota a few minutes and I got some info about Entune.

1) after the last USB update all future updates will be Over The Air...

2) Toyota rep thought all song have to be mp3 to be read correctly.

So...I converted a number of the songs I have to mp3 in tunes and manually copied them to the same artist/album folder in my Android HTC One. I deleted existing m4a songs so that only the mp3 versions were left.

plugged into my 4R via usb and .....no change. I still cannot browse the music on my phone by artist or album. I can only get one huge list of songs to scroll through.

Entune must be a half baked system designed to work with Apple and little else.

/fail....giving up.

I have not tried this yet, however one possibility to try is using some sort of media player on the phone to start the music (google music, etc) and then stream via BT to the 4runner. This should give some album info, however will have to test how organized and navigable it is, if at all. I don't believe the entune system in itself is smart enough to try to read all music data and orgainze it nice and neat via usb only. I would presume even with the iphone, when plugged in, there is some sort of backend on the phone itself sending information to the entune head unit to display/organize.

This may not apply for simply a usb stick with only music on it, however that defeats the purpose of having music on our phones.

I have an iPhone 5 and have the same issues so it is a problem with Entune not the phone.
