Brush gaurds, do they affect the bightness of the lights at all??

I want to put a brush guard on the front of my 06, but never had one before, and while probably a dumb question, does putting those metal bars in front of the headlights affect the lights at night at all?

One of my friends has some brush guard on his Taco and it does not seem to make any difference.

Also he is running 6000k HID's.
