Is it really? I read somewhere that if I took it to a dealership and got the OEM part it would cost nearly 1,800 dollars to get it installed... Should I just get the part and take it else where to get it installed?

Aisin made our trannies for Toyota, I don't think there are any companies that make aftermarket transmission parts for Aisin, but I'm not sure. The dealership would be more $$ probably just because the labor. If I were you, I would buy a complete used (~60K) tranny w/ TC from a salvage yard and have a shop put it in.

I hope the tranny fluid level was checked. Maybe try a fluid flush first? Could pink milkshake be starting?

IMO my transmission is fine, the level is great the fluid looks brand new and smells sweet. No pink milkshake that I know of, no fluid in the coolant. My transmission still shifts fine, has lots of life left. So I dunno, anyone have an idea at how much an OEM torque converter costs, just for the part?
