Budbuilt Slider Install Help

Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out if I'm an idiot or not or if this is a tricky install.

Sliders are freaking rad and seem super tough. They didn't come with any instructions though.

So I just got the sliders a bit ago. Taking off the running boards wasn't too difficult though I somehow snapped a bolt in the process. Do I need to worry about sealing any of those running board holes with anything?

Ok so here are the sliders:

And the hardware:

So I assume I put a metal plate on the backside about here where the bolt is? The plates are threaded so I assume I actually have that bolt backwards and the threaded end would be pointed towards the center of the car?

What do I do with the stuff that's in the way? Seems like there are things in the way on both sides.

I image I need to remove that whole skid plate (or whatever that thing is)?

I imagine the yamaha marked cylinder there needs to be moved aswell?

Anyways, any pointers would be awesome, it would be great to be able to do this install myself. I'm just getting into the hobby so don't have much experience working on this kind of stuff. I can follow instructions but not yet at the point where I can find solutions well without them.

Let me know if any other pics would be of use in helping determine 'how to'. I'd also be happy to take pics as I go to create instructions for anyone who wants to follow.

I put those on my tundra. heavy as hell. Hope you have a floor jack to position them into place. Buds website has instructions.

It definitely helps, but still need more specific guidance to the 4th gen 4runner.

Should be same process. Bolts on slider side, nuts on back side with metal plate supports. Move brake li es temporarily if needed. Sorry I am not more help.

Be careful with those lines on the outer frame rails; those are your XREAS line and controllers (the Yamaha contraption). I'm not sure if the BudBuilt sliders are made to accommodate XREAS or not - you may be able to slip the slider bracketry behind the XREAS lines, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone with more experience with sliders and XREAS can chime in.

Bamma, having trouble finding the instructions, would you mind linking me? I see 4runner skid instructions but no sliders.

Those sliders will not work when you have the xreas suspension on because of the lines run up and down the out side of the frame rails. when I put mine on it was difficult because it was heavy other than that the whole line up and the bolts go in.

Dan, I take it you ripped out your xreas and replaced with coilovers?

I am interested in get BB sliders as well!

Yes I did remove all that, I was one of the first few to actually get these sliders and the steel plate washers go on the back side and the nut with the long plate welded to it goes into the frame as in the picture where you can see it sticking out, basically I got as many bolts through the frame with the sliders properly alined.

I am not sure how it works with Xreas, I have an SR5 without. Seems like ther are a lot of items in the way and hard to solution. You would have to add some washers/spacers to the Xreas items to move them out away from the frame to fit in the bolts and screw plates?

Guys, here is some info Bud provided:

The bolts/plates are different from side to side;

Driver's side:


Front to back

1. 5 1/2" bolt with flat washer and "nut stick" that fits up thru rectangular hole in factory crossmember/frame. See pics

2. 5 1/4" bolt, flat washer, (slider, then thru frame ) then plate, flat washer, lock washer then nut.

3. 4 15/16" bolt, flat washer, (slider, then thru frame ) then plate, flat washer, lock washer then nut.

4, 5 and 6. 4 1/16" bolt, flat washer, (slider, then thru frame ) then welded nut plate, slid up from the bottom between the frame and gas tank.


Passenger's side:


Front to back

1. 5 1/2" bolt with flat washer and "nut stick" that fits up thru rectangular hole in factory crossmember/frame. See pics

2 and 3. 5 1/4" bolt, flat washer, (slider, then thru frame ) then plate, flat washer, lock washer then nut.

4, 5 and 6. 5" bolt, flat washer, (slider, then thru frame ) then plate, flat washer, lock washer then nut.
