Budbuilt vs. Shrockworks sliders - opinion?

I currently have the Budbuilt regular "bump-out" slidrrs with full tread plating. They look great but, frankly, I don't do any real offroading that would take full advantage of the design style. So, I am seriously considering replacing the Budbuilt with the Shrockworks sliders that come straight out and can be used more as a step up. This would be useful for me since my in-laws occasionally need to get in and out and they have a hard time with the height. Also, if I ever manage to get the funds to lift my T4r it would probably be helpful to me at that point as well.

All that being said, I'm just looking for opinions from folks that have had either, or both, brands/styles, as to what I should do.

My Shrockworks step sliders have the same issue for use as a step. I feel they just sit too close to the passenger floor level to be useful as steps. The Nfabs I initially went with were much better as steps, but not as sliders. Sometimes you just have to accept the compromise with your intended purpose.
 
Almost went with the budbuilt but happily settled on SW step sliders. My dog likes them :)

I vote shorckworks custom step sliders

I'm on the other side of the fence. Since putting my step sliders on nearly a year ago I have wished I would have gone with the more traditional sliders. In the beginning it was due to the looks. My truck doesn't look as tall with them on. Sure they have saved me on a couple of occasions, and they are convenient from time to time.

They can be equally as inconvenient. How many times have I gotten out and rubbed my calf on the thing to gain a nice dirty/wet/muddy spot on otherwise clean pants.

The main case I have against them though, is what happened while wheeling to me last weekend. They stick out, so while going up a bank one hooked a rock and ramped it up into my door. Had my sliders been more tight to the body, I don't see thins happening.

I'm to the point where I want to replace them or trade for more traditional sliders.

I will say my spotters liked them though as they rode up to their trucks fireman style.
 
I can substantiate others SW sliders statements. They look good and work well at repelling honda civics, can't comment on rocks. I do hit my calf on them getting out of 4R if I am not paying attention, not a big deal in my opinion. I don't use them for a step other than to access roof for storage or cleaning. However, my kids and older parents use them to get in and out every single time.
 
The only time the calf thing is a problem really is when you are meeting a
client and you get mud on your calf of your slacks.

An upside is admittedly, I do like to watch some oblivious jackass park too
close and bash their door into them.
 
yes, not worth it if all was cash (unless your loaded).
Our truck was stolen and damaged and both bumpers needed to be replaced anyways.
 
OP, you can add one more to the list of Shrockworks endorsements. I debated between Shrockworks and BudBuilt before finally deciding on the Shrockworks dimpled tread plate version. I've had them for almost a year now and have been extremely happy with them. I'd make the same decision if I had to do it over again. Just be prepared to endure the 3+ month wait after you order your Shrockworks sliders...:frusty:

I have thrown my hat in the ring for the Shrockworks group buy. I am also going to put my Budbuilt in the for sale section, they are in excellent to like new condition and already packed to ship if anyone is interested.
 
I also went with the Shroxworks over the Bud Builts. The design of the step was what won out with me and the mrs.
 
I can't speak for Budbuilt, but they have a hell of a reputation on here ...I've built/owned several Jeeps that were partially or fully outfitted with Shrock armor. You might have to wait a bit cause every piece is made to order, but the quality is absolutely top notch. After deliberating bump out sliders for weeks I came back around to Shrock sliders for my SR5.
 
i got my Shrockworks sliders (the "regular", upward-angled, non-dimpled) in a group buy also and like them a lot. they're recessed enough to be unobtrusive but i can still get the ball of a foot on them to use as a step if necessary. with a strip of 3M traction tape across the top they thread the needle between protection and step perfectly, imho.

worth the wait.
