damn i really like this one.

The sides not being covered should be an easy fix with 3m clear protective film for those who really want it to cover all around but prefer this look.

But now that I think about it most of the rock chips on mine are on the hood. Don't really see much on the sides.

They work for bugs .. rocks not so much.
The ones that wrap the fenders are good for rubbing paint off!
 
FINALLY got my Auto Ventshade 25116 Bugflector II Smoke Hood Shield from Amazon

USPS damaged the first one I ordered in transit, so it was returned to Amazon

The replacement order was mis-delivered by FedEx and I finally got it today

Had I not received it I would have given up, assuming it was just not meant to be

Install took all of 10 minutes. It took me longer to wash the hood than install the shield!. The 4 small, clear rubber bumpers it comes with are pretty much the same ones you can get from Home Depot so you can always get and install more than supplied should you so choose.

I will be driving back to Reno this weekend for the Rib Cook Off (behind the Nugget on Victorian, if anyone wants to meet up) and report back with the efficacy of the AVS unit.

The clear rubber bumpers are to cushion the impact of the shield when it flexes from windshear and contacts the hood and fenders, blemishing the paint.

I installed the bumpers on the hood after letting the shield "settle in" (drove it and parked it in the sun for a day) and then confirmed the 4 possible points of impact under flexion. Whether they stay attached or not remains to be seen.
 
I used to have the AVS non-wraparound one on my old 4runner. I think I paid around $35 for it and had no issues. Fit well and I didn't even use the little bumpstop thingies. It was firm enough it never touched.
 
I can't honestly tell if this think did my any service (good or bad) after just 1,100 miles, but it's still on there and it's covered in dead bug goop - so it's also another surface to clean :wow:
 
Has anyone removed the little rubber nubbins? Are they just sticky taped on? After 16 years, i think i wanna remove it after being demolished in the dealer car wash.
Hopefully theres not too much evidence anything was actually there.

The wrap around shield might flex more on the corners since they are not directly supported like the hood portion is.

Ironically its the corner beads that popped off when I washed it.
