anyone have any new ways to resolve the vibrating that occurs at 72+ mph with the canadian bug shield? I have read through all of the posts and I see a mix of brethren that don't have the problem and others that have been unable to resolve it.

If I can not resolve this problem then i will just junk the thing and find some other way to protect my hood. ..

Chime in please, I really like the look of the canadian bug shield but I can not stand that damn noise. .

Hmmm, that's interesting. I have the "canadian" bug shield and I have had no problems with vibrating or noise from it, and I am always over 72mph on the highway.

There are some rubber bumpers that should be installed on the underside of the shield, make sure that they are there. Did you install this yourself or was it a dealership ?

Well I have the problem partially solved. One of the bumpers was loose which prevented it from sitting on the 3M rubber done bumpers. I tested this and it now vibrates at 85+. I am getting closer to resolving the issue. . .
 
vibrations

I posted this type of answer before, and will try to remember what I said,

I noticed on a drive from Watertown NY, to Ottawa CA, that at 75 MPH, and a cross wind, the darn thing would vibrate.

Now that I'm in the south, and have had the Canadian bug shield for over a few years, it still vibrates from time to time. It doesn't look like it's going anywhere, and I check it when I stop at rest areas during long trips.

The vibration still occurs during drives with a cross wind ( the wind is not only coming from the forward movement of the vehicle, but mother nature is hiting you from the driver or passenger side as well. Probably about 10-15 Knots of wind.

I put the door edge guard on top edge of the deflector and no noise more. I used black one, it looks better then transparent.

what is door edge guard, or should I say, what does it look like.

When I installed mine I too had a lot of vibration. I guess when I installed it I didn't do it perfectly as some of the bumpers didn't touch the shield. So I went to Wally World and went to their hardward dept. They had similar rubber bumpers and I just stuck 2 of them together and put it on top of the one that was already there and viola, no more vibration. I guess I just had to raise it enough so everything is snug. Just my $.02

Not sure about 4th gen but on my 3rd gen i used zip ties to secure the guard a little tighter and that worked for me........

Hood deflectors for 3rd and 4th have different mounting.
 
Mine also did that when I first installed it per the directions. All you have to do is move the middle rubber bumpon all the way foward (toward hood edge) until it touches the deflector. Once I did that all vibration went away.

As I was promising, here is the picture.
My 4Runner is black, dark smoke Hood Deflector and black Door Edge Guard, so I highline the edge with Door Edge Guard with a red line.

Here is a quick solution, most speed limits are less then 70MPH, atleast here in the states they are. Dont speed and you wont get that vibration. ;):

AlexJet, did you pick up the door edge guard at a specific auto store, or do all carry it?

Jay, dude, can't drive long distance at 70mph, kids will drive me crazy, lol, just kidding (thank God for dvd players). Like stated by AlexJet, it also happens at 50mph, if the winds blowing from the side by mother nature are quite substantial, 10-20mph cross winds.

I got it from Canadian Tire. I think in Sates you can get it in any good parts store, Partsnet, Napa should have them.

Also,
I enjoyed my many stays in your neck of the woods when I was stationed in upstate NY.
We had the pleasure of visiting Niagra twice, Ottawa three times, and Montral once. Also spent many nights at Kingston. Just wish we could have made it to Toronto.

If any other T4R members get a chance, get up to Canada for great food, and great beer.

i know you might have fixed it just thought you might want another idea. Look at the 3rd gen have you tried a smaller rubber nipple thing?
