More JDM goodies!

Hi everyone!

My JDM shopping spree continues! Just got this in the mail from Japan!

More drugs?

Doh!!! JDM Hilux Surf dash! Turns out it's just a vinyl wrap and not paint :art:

Was quick to take off the vinyl. Could use a fresh coat of paint, but overall, it's in great shape. Even came with 12V outlets and a clock!

Instead of the rear window button, you get a small business card tray. Might use it for my registration and insurance, or, put a plate and use it as a cubby hole.

Thanks GreenbowCounty for sharing a bit of JDM knowledge! I'm stoked!!!

Oh, and one more thing...

Good deal

Angel congrats man, at some point I'll have to look into a triple din for aux switches. Coupling that with a double din unit is in my spec sheet. Looking forward to the install and the mirror install too:bowl:

Thanks James! I also just ordered this for the 3rd din slot. Should make up for the loss of my sunglasses holder due to FMU install.

I managed to repaint my FMU to better match the rest of the interior. Looks waaaayyy better than the matte sand color.

Used SEM's Monterey color spray paint. Pretty darn good match for the dark brownish interior pieces like the dash and the original overhead console.

Ram Mounting Systems

Time for a little update!

Was getting tired of my phone flying every time I slowed down or had to slam the brakes. I've used multiple cheap phone holders throughout the years, with little success. After a bit of research, I came upon Ram Mounting Systems phone holders, and while relatively pricey, I guess it's like the saying goes: "You get what you pay for." So, I saw a post where someone installed a Ram phone holder using the lower mounting bolt of the A-pillar grab handle, and decided to copy it.

Original post: http://www.livingoverland.com/2013/08/ram-mounts-x-grip.html

Here's the assembly of parts that I bought.

Part numbers:
1) Ram Mount Handlebar Clamp Base With Ball: RAM-B-367U
2) Ram Mount Cradle Holder for Universal X-Grip Cellphone/iPhone with 1-Inch Ball: RAM-HOL-UN7BU
3) Ram Mount Double Socket Arm for 1-Inch Ball Bases: RAM-B-201U

You'll also need an M6-1.00 X 40mm bolt. I was only able to source a hex head, but I suggest you get a socket head bolt.

Install was pretty straight forward. Remove bottom cap and bolt from grab handle:

Install 1" ball base with longer bolt:

Install arm and cradle in desired position:

And enjoy!

I have a Galaxy Note 3 with a slim case and phone fits suuuper snug, with a little room to spare. Before installing, I mounted the phone and shook the hell out of it, and it didn't budge, so I doubt it will on regular driving. Super happy with my purchase. Next mod: install a USB socket and get a short cable to charge my device. Stay tuned!!!

Looks awesome! I'm a big fan of Ram Mounts and have been considering one for myself for a while now.

Also, found your build thread! I've seen you around on the 3G4RM Facebook page!

More JDM goodness!

Did this a few weeks ago, but forgot to post.

After a ton of hunting with GreenbowCounty, finally got my hands on a JDM blind spot fender mirror!

No drugs in a box joke this time...

:hungry:

Got a custom can mixed up in glorious Toyota 6Q7, a.k.a. Imperial Jade Mica!

After careful measurements, I drilled the mounting hole.

I carefully taped the actual mirrors...

... and slapped on a couple of coats!

Think it matched pretty well!

And voila!

Slowly, but surely, I'll keep acquiring more JDM goodies!

Yeah, I post there quite often! Thanks! Have to say, I love your build also! Can't wait for the day my 4Runner is able to go through obstacles like yours!

Regarding the Ram Mount, have nothing but good things to say. You can definitely feel the quality of the product. And for $50, I can say I have an excellent phone mount for years.

The mirror and matching paint looks great man! I've been looking around for one and this makes me want one that much more.

Thanks man! It's honestly a novelty, though, if you hunch over to the right, you can actually use it and see the front bumper. I just like the look of our 4Runners with JDM accessories. Saving up for a rear hatch and tire carrier. Gonna display my trophy wrapped in BFG ATs once all five of them get here (guess that gives away my next mod ).

I dig the look too even though most of those parts are out of my budget, the fender mirror adds a nice subtle hint of the JDM theme to it. I recently picked up a Sport Runner rear spoiler and that paint you used on your fender mirror will most likely come in handy when I go to paint it.

Full JDM theme for you though? That'll look great with the IJM. Share some goodies while you're at it. :bigok:

Yeah, aiming for a full JDM style build! Gonna see if I can imitate the JAOS rally style mudflaps (not gonna pay $500+ for these!!!!). I will admit it, JDM parts are expensive! Nearly $200 for the FMU, a little over $100 for the mirror (with paint), close to $300 for the rear wing, etc. But it's addictive haha Post up the rear spoiler when you install it!

Sounds good man, I'll make sure to give you a tag or something when I get it all figured out. I'm going to play with it a little Monday but wiring isn't my strong suit at all so we'll see what happens with that. Nothing's as nice as that SSR-G you got yourself. Sub'ing to this to keep track of all your goodies you're starting to acquire.

BTW, get the JAOS rally flaps, those thing's are bad ass!

Looking forward to your progress! And thanks for the sub! I'd love the JAOS, but jeez, $500 for four pieces or rubber... meh. If I find a cheaper set, maybe! And the SSR-G wing is one of my top mods. Always draws attention at parking lots and stuff. Use it every day! What's cool is that this idea was done in the late 90s! No other car that I know of has such a thing, so, I find it to be a great idea from Toyota at the time. Wiring sure was a bit of a hassle though. But worth it!
