Bummer

Well, went to a restaurant Friday evening after cleaning / detailing my NEW TO ME & "Like New" I've had for 3 weeks 2008 Limited / 32,400 miles and discovered late Saturday someone backed into the left rear bumper (of course I parked far away from other cars) and messed up the bumper and realigned it a little. So off to my body shop for an estimate tomorrow before I consider insurance. I think it's minor / realign bumper & buff scratches -

So I want some real life advice on bumper guards front and rear if anybody has some (advice).

Let a shop handle it. In the wee olden days, a bumper was little more than a straight bar of steel, and a rear quarter panel was easy to replace.

Now. Integrated crash zones and Air bag sensors. Save yourself a ton of hassle. It will be pricey. On modern cars, any amount of body work quickly escalates due to the complexity of modern cars. They are a ton safer, and that safety comes at a price. I would wager the repair cost will be at least 1k, if not more, depending on what they did.

Hope that it is superfishal damage. There is no "bumper" to speak of just a plastic cover hiding the fully enclosed frame and some of the rear sheet metal..

I had the bumper off last weekend to install a Reese hitch and I'm amazed how much things have changed in the last 30 years (my last toyota was a 81 LOL).

Well ..... Lucky on this one. My body guy says no harm done. Minor adjustment buffed out myself this AM / Probably $200-$300 most. Said to wait till next spring. So I'll wait. It's really minimal but it just ticks me off how people can't even back out of a parking spot these days. Especially when you make an effort to be far away from everyone. Always seems you can park a mile away, go into a store, and come out and cars have surrounded you.

Here's what a 16 YR Old did to our Mercedes couple of years ago. Parked mind you, and driving a Mountaineer SUV he backed into our parked E320 ..... Damage - $5,600.00 Plus! Left rear quarter panel and left door.
