Burnt rubber smell around right rear

Noticed a burnt rubber smell around the right rear of the vehicle after driving. Any thoughts?

Crawl :spider: underneath and check the exhaust system and muffler to see if any there is any plastic road debris (e.g., trash bags, etc) melted and stuck to the exhaust. It has happened to me on a couple trucks that I have had. . . Litter bugs su**!

Your 4Runner has a greaseable driveshaft. Sometimes excess grease can sling off of the rear u-joint onto the exhaust producing the smell. It's amazing how much stink a tiny spot of grease can make. It's also amazing how long that tiny spot can produce the smell. I'm not saying that's what you have going on but I'd say it's somewhat likely.

This smell does sound like burning rubber. I had the same smell and it ended up being a busted CV boot slinging grease on to the exhaust and burning.

If the seal were bad you'd see an oily mess on the axle side of the wheel.
+1 for the suggestions above - litter or grease.

My 2010 4x4 with 5,800 miles on it has this smell too.

At first I thought it was just a breaking in thing... but if it doesn't go away soon, I'll take it in to see what's going on.

It usually only smells strong after long trips, but always in the rear right wheel well.

I have the same smell coming from only thr right rear tire. It smells like the tire is burning or burnt rubber. I also have a slight wobble or vibration coming from the same rear right wheel. Has anyone else had the wobble or can anyone help?
