Warning: Beevis and Butthead humor ahead
So the situation is this, the previous owner tried applying some bed liner or similar substance to one of my fenders. ( I believe as a band aid of a wreck that was in that corner of the vehicle) It obviously looks like total ass.
So I’ve been waiting to see if Bushwacker (or someone) felt some love for us 5th gen guys, only to be given the bird by them since they decided that only Gen 5 version 2.0 want Bushwackers. Well FU back Bushwacker! I out smarted you guys! You can’t keep me DOWN! (Okay, simmer down B-ry)
When I saw they announced Gen 5 last year at SIMA, I impatiently waited to gamble my hard earned cash that my bumpers would negate the difference in Version 1 and 2, since I’d have to whack the Bushackers.
Finally! I see they came out and I get to look at the instructions. Looking at pictures, everything seems to line up with what I have. I have enough faith and knowledge of Toyota to realize that a cosmetic change on the facade would not change the functional/structural end of the design. So one more click on Amazon and here I have some over- priced plastic to whack.
Box comes in, still looking good. Moment of truth GEEEETTTTT WHACKIN
First guestimated cut, and I'm past the point of no return.
A bunch of slow cuts later and Viola. Side one done!
It is amazing how things lined up except for a cut I had to make to allow for the sliders.
Also due to previous trail damage, my mud flaps gave up the ghost long ago. So I had to whack some of the remaining mud flap on one side. Unfortunately, I was a little too eager in my whackin so I whacked too much. (Huh huh huhuhuhuhuhuh. Yeah yeah he whacked too much. Whacked it!)
I still need to figure out how to fix that one.
Other side finished, it looks SO much better then those nasty old flairs.
What’s next? New shoes will round this out nicely. As you can see, that is soon to come.
First observations
Due to the cuts, The fronts are really held up by push pin things. I need to figure out a more robust solution.
The driver's side rear fender, doesn't seem as snug to the body. I'll look into that too.
I do rub more now, but the jury is out on that because I haven't changed the tires and wheels yet. In doing so, the spacers will be removed. So I'll update this after Discount Tires tells me my tires are in, and to come and get them.
