Bushwacker Fender Flares

I'm thinking about getting some Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender Flares to go with the new wheels and tires, and I wanted your opinions before I make the purchase. Do you guys think it's worth it, or should I just leave it how it is? And if yes, should I leave them black to go with the wheels or have them painted to match the body? I think the flares would look good black or body color painted, especially since your truck is already a dark color. I had mine painted to match and overall, the flares were some of my favorite aesthetic enhancements. Got mine on streetsideauto with coupon code for $336.99 shipped.

I say go for the flares if you can afford it. I want to get a set as well, but theyre so expensive. The cheapest Ive found then are $400. And then getting them professionally painted is gonna be another $300 or so. But if you do get them, go color matched paint. color match always looks the best imo

I think that the black flares would look better if the bumpers weren't chrome, and this is where I'm torn on whether to paint the flares or not. I wish mine had the black fender trim like yours. The only reason I want new flares is because I removed the ugly chrome trim and now it's a little too bare for me.

I have xenon flares ( similar to bushwackers) and im painting them with spray bedliner tomoro. I've had them on for a few weeks now , I was going to do body color but Im to worried about them getting scuffed and beat up . Spray bedliner will be cheap and easy to fix if they do get stuffed. And I think it will look more rugeed. Im also doing my front up and lower valance with the bedliner

I realy like the black wheels on your truck. heres a pic of mine with the flares.

I plan on painted my rear bumper also within the next week or 2.

Well if you like my sport flares, Im actually thinking of selling them to afford bushwackers, or limited flares. I havent fully committed to selling yet. I started a thread in the classifieds to see what people would pay for them. But for the right offer I will sell them. Let me know if you have any interest

We painted our BWF to match and installed in through our shop. They are decent and we have received alot of compliments. However, I was a bit disappointed, they did not fit as tight to the body as I would like.

Recently a tree jump out and claimed the passenger rear flare, lol. While making repairs we decided to inspect the connection points on all four corners. We were surprised to find several mounting points had cracks. They maybe covered by warranty however to have repainted is not covered. To replace the damaged flare, BWF sells them in pairs for $230 plus ship. Yikes!

We decided to go a different route and were lucky enough to find a full set of SR5 Sport Black flares. They are scheduled to drop in our paint booth next week then installed all the way around.

Either way, many folks have been happy with BWF.

I had my whole rear bumper, tailgate, and front bumper repainted at the same time as the bushwacker flares. I had a 'family' discount, so couldn't really say how much the flares portion cost. I do know the paint and clear coat material cost was $300 for all the above work not including labor. I imagine painting the 10-12 flares pieces would cost around $300 alone at a regular shop all said and done.

I don't think the black flares would look awkward with the chrome bumpers. Check out some of the Limited two tone models in white/silver and black/silver for example. Most of those had chrome bumpers still and looked pretty normal to me.

On a side note, the Bushwacker package comes with 2 pairs of front bumper end cap flares - a pair for the 96-98 models and a pair for the 99-02 models. In order for me to make mine flush, I had to dremel mine to get them to sit flush to my front bumper face bar and lower valance. It's like the designers worked so hard to mold the rest of the kit and then decided to half ass the front caps. The caps just had one giant smooth arc with no consideration of the arch join between the face bar and lower valance. Hopefully the 96-98 caps work out better for everyone. The provided rubber trim that goes between end cap and bumper helps seal the gap and imperfections at the end.

I had that awful chrome strips on my '97 and quickly replaced with with some BWs and had them painted by a friend and really liked them. If I had kept the truck I would've painted the front lower valance to match the flares but with the chrome I thought they still looked pretty good.

Those look nice man, I'd never heard of the xenon flares. That price is hard to swallow though. Make sure and post some pics once you paint your flares and bumpers.

I was concerned with how tight they would fit to the body, so thank you for that. For nearly $400 plus the cost of paint, you should be able to expect a bit of quality. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Ron, I really like the look of yours. I would probably just leave them matte black to go with the wheels, but then again I do like them when they are painted to match the body. Opinions on this?

Yeah if you have a Limited or 99-02 that already has the wider flares. It would definitely make mine look different.

I got the xenon flares off ebay, forgot what I paid but it was something just over $200 . They are ok, But I think bushwackers looks better. The original price on the xenons is about $500 or so...
