Bushwacker Fender Flares

I completely agree with all the reasons why Bushwacker should make flares for the 4th Gen, but Bushwacker's priorities remain in being first to market with the most current models.

I can assure you that the project isn't dead, it's just on the back burner.

I don't want to kill the messenger because I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I know the decision comes from higher up.

But, we are 5 years in on the 5GT4R and there is still noting even in the idea phase of these. Waiting 11 years and still not 4th gens running around with wicked pocket flares send an entirely deferent message.

It's like when you are a kid and you ask for something and your parents say "yea, yea in a minute". And then 11 years later, it still has not been a minute.

Can you post up the results of the survey.


Can you "as our state rep" also request that they release the 5th gen flares also in the very near future? If they don't commit to it now, 11 years will pass and this forum will have a matching thread just like this one. In fact with the FJ out of the picture, the 5th gen may be a better bet than the 4th

It baffles me why no one make abs/ plastic fender flares for the 4th and 5th gen 4runners. Completely mindboggling... would take 40 hours to design in a cad program. The real expense comes in the mold and tooling costs for a manufacturer. It's a huge up front expense that most companies aren't willing to explore for a new market (in this instance the 4runner market). If nothing else, the successful nature of this forum proves the passion and desire is present by 4runner owners to heavily modify our vehicles as much or more than models they currently offer them for.

I just recently bought a 3D printer... I need someone to cad the flares form me and slice them. Then I will print them. I should have bought a bigger printer, mine only has a usable space of 7x7x7. But. There is a guy on here who has made a snorkel with a 3d printer.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but this is probably never going to happen. They already half admitted it that their first and foremost priority is current model lineups. This is where the big money is. The 4G4R was probably never seen as a big market for their product so it was never produced, otherwise we'd already have it along side those available for the FJ Cruiser. Besides, our design is going on 5 years past it's last incarnation. As a business, I'd have to be darn sure I'm going to make more than a buck on my product to keep the business running.

This is going to take someone like TOY2G to take the initiative to scan the stockers, modify them in Solidworks or something similar, and with a rather large 3D printer, make a new version.

Another 7 months has now passed since the last post from Bushwacker.

So sad...so many of us have beautiful 4th gen rigs that would look even better with the pocket style flares.

I took the survey months ago and mentioned how many people are interested.

Keeping my fingers crossed, but very rapidly giving up any hope of anything from Bushwacker. Let's just hope that someone else picks up the ball and runs with it.

Looking into DIY options at this point. :/

Hey everyone,

Long story short, Bushwacker is a slow moving ship, and many of the 4G4R frustrations are felt on my end daily. To give you an idea of how slow the ship is, it took nearly three years for Bushwacker to release the Flat Flare for the JK. Not saying the 4G4R will take that long since we're making a lot of improvements to be more proactive, but many of the bad habits still remain.

All I can do is continue to act as the voice of the enthusiast, think of me like a state rep, i'll do what I can but sometimes it's an uphill battle. I appreciate everyone that took the 4Runner Survey, it's helped a lot.

Awesome find. My fenders are pretty faded and my first thought when I got the rig was to look for some bushwackers.

Hi guy i am knoe i am late , but it is never late so i am a metal worker so i will make custom fender flare POCKET STYLE MAYBE NOT SURE YET still working on that project ... i want to knoe i make more them one set will you some of you guy would like a set ? i will make the fender that will clear my 315/70/r17 thank you guy for you reply in advance

Show me your skillz! I am interested. Are you planning on pulling off the plastic piece then fabbing from the fender? I was thinking this summer I would pull my plastic off then trim as much off the metal part as I could and trim the plastic to match to give me a bigger opening, but this makes my flare smaller...
Also, you are planning on designing them for the front and rear?

yes i will pull off my old fender flare and take them as my model for the metal on ! and after i will make them bigger to cover my wheel ! and yes i wikll do the rear and front, i will post all the update on that project and if everything is going well me and my boy will maybe make the product , but if you need more space why dont you do a other lift or body lift ?

Just so you know, the 03-05 have different bumper and flares than the 06-09. Thought I'd give you a heads up.
I have 5.5" of lift, will SAS in the future. I've trimmed quite a bit but it would be nice to have a more open fender opening. I run 35's.

Yah i knoe for the years i will make it only for 03-05 , you coul change you top plate for a 3 inch and put a spring of 3inch to make six and bodylift 1.5 you will clear them ! i run 315/70 on a 7.5 lift and no rubbing for me !or the more cheap way just put a 1 inch coil space on you other coil spacer

I have 3" suspension and a 2.5" body lift. I clear them now without a problem, but I'm going bigger in the future. Eventually will be 1 ton axles front and rear, 40" tires, and a marlin lefty transfer case. I will have to relocate the body mount behind the front tires at that point, which isn't too hard. I wanted fiberglass fenders but nobody makes them for the rear, so I'm coming up with different plans.

Ya my original plan was to do the 6" DB lift, but I already brake parts so it is better to spend the money once to stronger stuff than to keep fixing a weak ifs setup. There's several guys using the 6" fj lift now, keaks is the biggest that I know of.

For my self i am using a custom fj 8 inch lift i love the ride of it
