buying a 4runner and i know i cant keep it stock

hey guys whats going? i just recently sold my subaru wrx and im looking to get back into a suv. i had a jeep xj as my daily with a 4.5 inch lift. i loved it and hated it. it sucked doing road trips with it because it was all over the road with its lift and i heard and felt every little thing in it, basically i hated making long trips in it (DEATH WOBBLE)! but it was fun in the trails and got me around with camping and going into the woods. also i know its not going to be the best ride ever but coming from a crappy lifted xj and a very low wrx, im sure it will be better then those.

So im here to see if you guys can help me with a lift option for my style. i know there is the sticky thread of lift options but i want more of your guys opinions and its not very updated. i want around a 2.5"-3" lift. i need something that would be comfortable on the highway and be able to do speeds around 80mph. this will be seeing some trail time up the mountains and creek crossing. it will be my new daily driver so around town it has to be comfortable, we have very bumpy roads here in pa haha i know i don't want spacers and not a big rake. the only thing i carry around is 2 dogs in the back. i don't mind it being a little stiffer then stock. i know coilovers are the best bet but pricey, unless i can find a good used set! just hoping you guys can lead me in the right direction so that i only have to do it once!

honestly, there's a sticky on this stuff for a reason. Otherwise look around and some of the build threads (also a sticky) and look and who went with what and the options they chose and their experiences. Honestly I think almost everyone (if not everyone) on this forum DD their runners for the most part with or without lifts. As long as the alignment is done and the tires are balanced comfort everyday will be normal.

Welcome to the forum, I'm pretty new here too but might be able to help out. First off lets see some pictures of the WRX! When I finish school I'm going to look for a WRX or STI as a daily. With regard to the lift....I've been piecing mine together over the winter and this is what I will be running.

For the front I decided on the Bilstein/Tundra's. Here's a thread with more information on it....http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/101758-rickashay-s-ome-vs-trd-tundra-lc-review.html. They are cheaper than the "more adjustable" toytec coilovers a lot of people run but still offer a good amount of lift and ride great. I paid $350 for mine.

For the rear I ordered some toytec superflex coils that provide 3.75 inches of lift with no weight in the back. I went with these because I figured it would make for a nice raked look. With this lift I will also be able to clear the 285's in the future. These were about $240 after taxes and shipping (I'm in Canada so shipping is expensive). For the shocks I will be running Land Cruiser's you can get from cruiserparts.com for $45 each. They are thicker, stronger, and longer which will allow the rear to flex nicely. There's lots of different options and combinations and everyone has a different opinion. It really depends on how much money you want to spend. Do some looking around on the site and you will learn alot. Keep an eye on the classifieds I've seen lots of kits for sale....I saw a full OME lift there a couple days ago.

Wow that was the kind of info I would like to see! Haha yeh ill miss my Subaru and ill regret selling it but I got a good offer for it. Ill post a pic of it when I'm home. And I've been looking at the toytec coilovers and seem pretty legit but I didn't know about the tundra swap. Thank you for posting the actual thread ill have to look over it. Like I said I don't want anything crazy in height but something that would ride pretty comfortable for long trips

they were done using plasti-dip (peels off if you dont like it):thumb3:

I 2nd that. They're a great setup of eiback spring and bilstein shock.
 
i know coming from jeeps that your almost always going to have death wobble. is it frequent with the 4runners as it is with jeeps? what can i avoid or make better to not get it?
