Buying a Limited: Who is running 275/60R20's?

Hello All,

I'm a brand new member, although I've been stalking these forums for several weeks now. I plan to buy a 2012 Limited in the next week (4x4, obviously...can't believe they make these things in 2wd).

I must say, I'm VERY impressed by some of the detail found here. I'm hoping you guys wouldn't mind helping a newbie with some questions:

1) TIRES: I think we can all agree here that the stock limited tires are a JOKE. I'd like to go to a 275/60R20, and I know several people on this forum run them on the stock limited wheels (yes, I've seen the debate about 275's on a 7" rim).

That said—and to those out there who run this combo— have you noticed any "wander" or other undesirable traits from putting a 275 on a 7" rim?

One of my biggest requirements is keeping the rig a good travel cruiser...I've had trucks with tire / wheel combos that cause wander before...not looking to have it again.

2) Lifts- Although I'd really rather ditch X-REAS, I'm not really technically adept, and the thought of disconnecting the stock suspension bothers me. I'd LOVE a nice Toytech Ultimate or ICON, but perhaps it will take me a while to warm up to the idea.

That said, I'm looking for advice on spacer-style lifts. Is there any consensus on which one is best? Is there any problem with going "high"— I would prefer something like the Truxx 3/1, but only if it doesn't have strong negative impacts on ride quality.

a 275/55r20 is what you want to keep a similar diameter. Some people are saying a Continental tire will "fit" on the 7" rim, but I replaced the wheels with 20x9" in order to be sure. It made all the difference in the world in driving feel. Maybe you can work something into a new purchase where you get reasonable credit for doing a take-off at delivery? Or maybe you can negotiate new tires right from the start for the OE wheels. Good luck...

Old thread, but thought I would post as I have done a lot of research on this site leading to my 4Runner upgrades. Just got some 275/60r20 Terra Grappler on last week and loving them so far. Definitely more ready for winter than running on the stock pizza cutters.

With a 3/2 lift I did get a little rubbing on the front fender liner, but with some small mods, they are running great and completely transform the look.

Here's a few pics, but will have to get some better in daylight:

I have a 14' Limited with a Daystar 2.5/1.5 level and just ordered new 20x9 0 offset wheels. Im totally conflicted on tire size though. Going with Cooper Zeon LTZ's in either 275/55 or 275/60. When you say you got some rubbing? was that during standard on-road driving? or some heavy off-roading? And what happened to your fuel mileage/braking performance??
