Buying decision - '14 TE Premium Barcelona Red - feedback please

Hi all,
making a buying decision this week on a '14 TE Premium, Barcelona Red, 1-owner NJ lease, 20k miles, nav., w/KDSS, w/o rear sliding cargo tray. Warranty is up at 8/31/17. Some TRD emblems and window vent shades added. Dealer added 4 new generic brand tires, OEMs must have worn fast.
Price $33,899 - seems like a decent deal compared to Edmunds & KBB dealer ($35.1k-$36.8k)?
I don't prefer KDSS as I test drove with and without and wasn't a big noticeable difference at least to me, but for the price I'm thinking why not. (I've seen the posts about KDSS leaning and the "what ifs")
Prefer super white and classic silver, however I used to own a Sunfire Red '02 Sport 4WD so I'm a bit partial.

That's just too big of a purchase to not get the color you really want. It's literally the part you see the most. Better make it a color you want.

As others have mentioned, that's nearly teh price of a new one! With a full warranty and 0 miles... Plus it might have better interest rates if you went with new.

I would be surprised if you could find a new Off Road Premium new for less than 40K.

I looked at several Florida Toyota dealers websites, found one that a Off Road Pro, listed at $38,744 , add 3-5k more for the premium.

But if you can swing 5-6k more, a new one is always good.

It's decent.

It's also the reason why I bought new. $39k, cross bars, KDSS, all weather mats in that price.

I wanted a certain color, super white, so it was worth the extra 5-6k IMHO and it was brand new..had I found the same thing like you did with the right color....might have been more tempting, but large purchase I will get everything I want unless I'm saving so much I'd be dumb not to.

Bonus though...didn't the '14's still have the cool compass near the clock still? I like that...classic touch.

On the flip side of the buying new opinion - I see that $5-6k for a new rig as $5-6k that I could either spend on something else cool or put in savings. I'm a notorious cheapskate though.

Don't know. The one I looked at was a '14 Trail, non-KDSS, Georgia lease, 23k miles, MGM. It's a Certified Pre Owned that was listed at $36,988 and the dealer immediately dropped to $33,000 giving me $30,000 on my '14 KDSS 38k miles. They came down to a delta of $2k out the door but I still don't know if I want to give a couple grand for the trade. Did I mention I'm a cheapskate?

I keep dreaming of the peace of mind of a non-KDSS rig though... and one that doesn't lean 7/8".

To the OP - The deal looks decent, though I wouldn't buy a Northern car ever due to the road salt, and I'm a big fan of Toyota Certified Pre Owned vehicles, especially with a KDSS rig. At least you have an accountable dealership if it goes wonky.

If you don't actively want KDSS I would avoid it. I wish I had never gotten it and I'm a granny driver and I'm used to driving old Jeeps ('66 CJ5 on leaf spring lift and 31" MTs cruising at 55mph feels fine to me) so the "boaty" body roll that some talk about isn't an issue to me.

Did you get a bottom line dollar figure yet? That would be what matters and that's all I ever talk to the dealers about.

Who pays sticker price for a vehicle? Check out the other threads on here about purchasing new 4Rs. there are probably still some 16s on the lots. I picked up my '16 Trail Premium (new) for just over $37k. There is no reason to buy one used, with no warranty.

That being said, I love these things resale value!

That's a decent deal, because then at least you get the CPO warranty to cover you for a while.

just picked up TRDORP for 40k out the door so it's barely doable, no kdss though

Thanks all...some good thoughts to consider especially the 2 years in the winter salt, so I may keep searching for a warmer weather white or silver TEP. I didn't want to pass up on a "great deal" so wanted some feedback here to see. Sounds like it's "decent, not great."
Bottom line price will be $33,200 + TTL.
I've always bought used as its hard for me to accept that depreciation hit you take on any new vehicle in the first couple yrs.; although the TEs do hold their re-sale value pretty well.
So, yes the more like $6-$8k+ I save by not buying a new one ('16 TEP / '17 ORP with KDSS - apples to apples here) I can use for whatever.
The other downside is the warranty expiring this August...guess I always have the option to purchase a 7 or 8 yr. extended Toyota warranty (around $1,500 or so). So net savings after warranty of $4,500-$6,500 is good money to invest/mods./etc. Thanks again for the feedback.

Smkymntn, I bet you do! Thanks for not telling me, nice rig/mods however the $26k is really apples to oranges since I'm looking at a TE Premium w/KDSS and not sure what factory options you have

The two years of NJ winter metal eating crap would be a turnoff for me. I bought my '16 TE, no KDSS, all weather mats, for $37000.69 out the door. I didn't want the sunroof. I would suggest to just buy new or keep looking for the color you really want.

I was in your position two weeks ago and ended up picking up a 2017 in Barcelona Red. I will say, that I originally wanted a Silver one, but I have noticed all 4Runners in the PNW seem to be White, Silver, or Grey. It's kind of nice having one in Red.
