Buying my first 4Runner - good deal?

Gonna explore the forum for buying tips....

In the meantime I was going to call this person, thought about offering 4500. Thoughts?

Toyota 4Runner, excellent condition

120k miles, SR5, runs excellent & extremely clean body and interior, no rust, good tires, everything works great, 4-wheel drive- hi & low, automatic, 3.4 litre 6-cylinder, alloy wheels, moon roof, factory privacy glass, factory roof rack, factory premium sound with cd player, a/c, cruise, tilt, 4-wheel ABS, air bags, towing package, undercoated and Rhino Blast painted around wheel wells and rockers to prevent rust or stone chips, all maintenance up to date, dealer-maintained, oil changed religiously, great all weather vehicle, it would be hard to find one in better condition

I would just look for rust underneath looks like might be some on tow hitch if not looks like a good deal

+1 on rust check. If you haven't already, read the buyers guide, especially the 'strawberry milkshare' syndrome here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/69744-3rd-gen-faq-tutorials-documentation-reference.html

If it looks clear of rust and strawberry issues then 4500 would be really sweet especially for the miles. Luck! :cowboy:_

just found this one. 200K though. have been texting back and forth. no rust, underbody is not all rusted (per owner, have to see for myself of course).

looks like a lot of maintenance has been done (said he has receipts). would you bite? $3500

I have a 1998 Toyota four runner with the 3.4 automatic transmission. The truck is In great shape and loaded..it has all leather seats, sun roof, tinted windows, Cd player, power windows and locks. Many new parts. Just recently had the timing belt and water pump done. I just had all new gates hoses, all new belts,fresh tune up with plugs, wires, fuel filter, new front brakes, new radiator, water pump, timing belt, all fluids changed. The tires are about half tread, runs and drives great.

seems like a fair price at 3500. if it's as clean as you say it is underneath and no milkshake syndromes, I'd pay what he's asking. seems like a solid truck.

Is it just me or does the first one look like it's got bigger tires?

If the interior checks out, that first one is sweet. Miles don't matter for the engine, but our drivetrain and suspension wears out so the less miles the better.

Always take a towel with you to check the fluids though. If a vehicle is neglected it will often have sludgy oil or AT fluid or rusty looking coolant.
