Buying used, 3 owners, bad idea?

Dealer wants $16,900 for it.
v8, white, 4wd, SR5, 96,000 miles, 3rd row seat (a biggie for me), no sunroof.
BUT, is this dangerous, since 3 ppl have had it? Why would the second owner have it for such a short time? I suppose it is a good thing that the last owner had it for almost 4 years.

Any input on this, and if this is a decent deal?

HAHA my 4runner was owned by 7 people... I was a bit weary but 200k and no problems.. I wouldn't worry some people just sell because they want something different and its a toyota you can almost be sure its not a lem..

I would hold out and look for a private sale, check craigslist.. I'm not sure what year it is, but i bet you could find a better deal..

I bought my 04 v8, 3rd seat with 60,000 for $11.5. Although I got a great deal, I saw a bunch that were priced less in private sales. The dealer was always 2-5 grand higher it seemed.

I wouldn't worry about the owner thing to much either, these 4 runners are built very good.
You could have had someone sell it to a neighbor, who then had kids and needed a minivan etc etc. So many reasons why a vehicle can have multiple owners, I don't think its out of the ordinary.

Ask for the Carfax report. If they won't give you one, buy one. It's well worth it even tho you don't buy the vehicle. Better know the history NOW than figuring it out later when you already bought the vehicle. My 2 cents.:

The truck has only had two true owners - "owner 2" was the Idaho dealer who had it in inventory for 2 mos before selling it. See the 10-7-05 entry:

"Dealer took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory"

I wish I was seeing some of these low prices where I am at. My loan requirements tell me I have to buy from a dealer, but Im still lucky to find anything for less than about $16500. I was even willing to travel a little ways, but still no luck. The one Im currently looking at is an 05 SR5 with leather, 60k, and is going for $17k. Its the cleanest I have come accross so far, so I am happy with that price.

In response to this thread, I wouldnt worry about the number of owners either. Toyota makes a good car/truck.

Don't know where you are but C&O motors in St Albans, WV has 2008 4runners for as low as 21,900. They very well may be new
