C V boot spewing grease

I replaced my cv shafts with oem rebuilt about 3 months and 6 thousand miles ago. on boot has started spewing grease looks like it must be comeing from the big end near the diff. it is dry and no grease on the shaft. any ideas how to fix this? I have a 3 inch lift ,which I installed a little over a year and 20 thousand miles ago. A boot ripped on the stocker so I just replaced both cv shafts complete, they had around 187,000 miles on them so seemed like a good idea. I had no problems after lifting for about 15,000 miles when the boot ripped so I am kinda puzzeled.

The problem of boots tearing prematurely is due to the changes your 3" lift made to the angle of your CV joint. With the lift, the CV axle is at a greater angle, and because of that, the inner boot near the differential has a tendency to tear because the ribs of the boot are able to rub together. The friction between the ribs finally causes a tear to open up.

You need to do an extended boot mod to prevent this. There's several write-ups on this subject.

I know all the problems with lifts and torn boots. the boot is not torn, has no rip or hole in it

You lost me dude. If grease is coming out, there either has to be a rip in the boot somewhere or one of the clamps is loose and it's coming out from there. It can't just mysteriously come out.

I'd get your hand in there and separate the fins of the boot and give it a really good look. If the boot is indeed intact, I'd check the clamps, mainly the clamp on the big side. Maybe the boot slid off it's purchase and is allowing the grease to come out from there.

Sounds like he is saying the clamps r not tight enough and it's leaking. It happens alot with rebuilt axles

I have already done this that is why I posted no rip or hole in the boot. so the camp must have not been put on tight enough. I will check that out, I have not had one come loose before thanks for the info

When you figure it out, please report back and let us know where the grease was coming out. [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] and I just did a reboot on his OEM CV axles and replaced his remanufactured ones that were destroyed. I unfortunately bought a crappy pair of CV boot clamp pliers and I'm a little concerned I didn't get them tight enough. I just bought another pair of CV boot clamp pliers and I plan on getting under his truck to see If I can get the clamps a little tighter.
