What's up guys, I've been having the p0420 problem for some time now and I changed out my rear 02 sensor just to see if it would fix my problem. It didn't, lights came back on within a couple of days. When it came back I had the codes ran again and got not only p0420 but c1201 (engine control system malfunction). I've done a little research on it and most people are saying that this code is often tripped due to the car throwing an original code. Kinda like c1201 is thrown as a secondary code? I just want to make sure it's not a huge deal.

Change the front O2 sensor as well. Next would be your cats.

It told me bank 1, so I'm assuming that means the pre-cat sensor

That does mean pre-cat. In my experience the upstream O2 is usually the first to go. You can Youtube how to clean your cats, but not sure how effective it actually is.

Glad to hear bank 1 is the pre-cat that means a great deduction from my bank account. I replaced the rear with a Bosch so I was genuinely hoping that the front or cat wasn't bad but I never get that lucky

Put a new O2 sensor in there first. If you decide to change the cats you might as well have new sensors to go with it.

Will try. Am I right about the c1201 code getting thrown after an original code is thrown? Or is it something I should be seriously worried about
