C4 fab spring 2018 rock slider group buy

How often does C4 do group buys? I missed this one, but am very interested in the sliders.

Even if you had to pay full price it is worth the price. Love my sliders and my lo-pro bumper.

Got my sliders in last week, had them powder coated by a local business and then installed them earlier this week. Installation was super easy (performed this install solo) and took about 3-4 hours. Took my time during the install and cleaned out the existing threaded holes on the frame with a small wire brush since they were a bit dirty from winter use. I recommend doing this if you live in a place where they salt the roads during the winter time. These things are super beefy and C4Fab includes Grade 10.9 hardware for the install. I'm sure these things can take some serious abuse.

We typically only do one per year. We do not have any sales coming up anytime soon. Possibly Labor Day or something like that since we are not planning an Independence Day sale. It all depends on what our workload is looking like at the time.

What kind of mounts are you using for the RTT to GOBI?

I'm just using the mounts that came with the Tepui tent and the GOBI adjustable cross bars. The only way you can install this (if you have normal sized hands) is to install the GOBI rails onto the RTT first and then mount the entire assembly to the roof rack. The nuts and bolts are otherwise not within reach.

Congrats on your new 4runner! We may be having a storewide Labor Day sale this year, but no guarantees yet. Watch out for that though.

I was able to primer and paint mine awhile ago, i painted them in matte black using the rustolem stuff that most people suggest here.

However I am worried as it looks like they are very powdering and if i brush them the paint will come off, nothing like a nice smooth gloss finish. Not sure what to do as I don't want these getting water and sand between them and my frame and rusting my frame

Powder Coating

Hi,

I purchased my sliders during a previous group buy and finally got them powder coated and installed in January of this year. I absolutely love them! I'm hoping to get some feedback related to powder coating. (Nothing wrong with the sliders)

The shop I went to said they would sand blast the sliders and do a chemical prep prior to the coating. I found out afterwards that they never did the sand blasting and claimed the "chemical dip" worked fine. I let it go, but now I'm seeing the issues in the attached images, mostly on the step plates.

For those experienced in powder coating, what are your thoughts on this? What would cause this? The shop told me they would redo the plates for free, but I'm worried it's just going to happen again. Also, he still said they wouldn't blast them...just the chemical dip to take the existing coating and rust off. Also, what about some of the spots on the sliders where it looks like there are small holes? Is that something to worry about? Should I fill those myself?

The step plates are most likely chipping like that because they weren't sandblasted. Powder coat shops will always try to convince their customer that the chemical wash is sufficient for prepping the surface, and for items like handrailings on stairs and things like that its usually fine. For truck parts that are outside in the weather and getting hit with road grime and in this case used as a step, the sand blasting is a must. Sand blasting roughs up the surface of the steel and allows the powder coat to stick to the steel much better. It wont make powder coat indestructible, but it will typically make it stay on the steel longer.

As for the couple of small holes, you could fill them with a small dab of black silicone if you are worried about them.
