Cabin Air filter filthy

A couple of questions:

1) Is the Cabin Air Filter some sort of accessory or option or did they all come with them?
2) Is it an Activated Charcoal style or just regular?
3) On my '03 Corolla, I just took out the glove box door and it was "right there" easy. Is there a more elaborate DIY on the 5th Gen.?
4) Anyone know if and what the replacement interval is? I'm guessing 30K.

It's located in the glove compartment... right behind where your owner's manual is probably still sitting in brand-new, never-read condition.

1. All
2. regular
3. Same. It's behind a panel in the glove box. Simple.
4. I check and clean at OCI.

BTW, according to the manual it's inspect/clean @15k and replace @30k :)

I was just messing with you, the cleaning and replacement interval I listed above are really from the manual, I didn't make it up, lol.

It sounds like the standard filter is, uh, standard, but I thought my dealer mentioned a active carbon charcoal dealio that was like $50, which I regard as an upgrade/accessory...or it could be just a raging ripoff for a standard filter element....

Thank you for the straightforward and relevant reply. Part bookmarked on Amazon. Now that my wife and owners' manual are home, I can confirm that it's actually called the "Air Conditioning Filter" and the replacement procedure on page 555 (MY2013) is ridiculously easy: there's a snap-open door at the back of the glove box followed by another snap open door to access the filter. No tools are required. Big upgrade over previous T4Rs and other Toyotas. 20 second job, if you're real quick.

[MENTION=50850]harper[/MENTION], thanks for posting the amazon link. I had some credit so went ahead and ordered one. I checked my filter the other day and was pretty surprised how dirty it was at 8k miles already. Be ok for awhile longer, but got a spare coming now.
 
Note that this inexpensive Fram brand cabin filter as compared to Toyota's filter has the additional activated charcoal "built in" to absorb odors.
