Cabin air filter - found a napkin inside?

Changed mine today with about 40k, it looks nasty.

I just hit 40K and will be replacing mine tonight, I hope mine doesn't look like that, although I'm sure it's still the original 1

The shop used an old juice bottle to catch oil and left it wedged against your drive belt.

Isnt there another shop in town? Stop supporting those bozos with your money

This is my local Toyota dealer. I had a warranty issue i needed to address, plus I wanted to give them their bottle back. I also got a new drive belt out of the deal. I've been going there mainly because it is convenient (early hours, saturdays, etc), but I'll probably start hitting up my local mechanic for the basics.

Also, while changing my cabin filter, the piston on the right side of the glovebox is not connected at the top (blue circle in pic). Normally, the instructions say to undo the screw at the bottom to lower the glovebox. Mine's not attached at the top, and I can't tell where it is supposed to attach. Can anyone tell me where it connects?

there should be two plastic pegs that protrude out from inside the dash (where the cylinder part of the "shock" points to when the rod end is screwed in) its easier to attach the cylinder to the pegs with it unscrewed from the box. Someone may have removed it without disconnecting the cylinder from the pegs and posibly broken one or both of the pegs. Mines only held in by one peg lol hope yours are all acounted for.

hmm maybe theres only one peg afterall i just saw the two holes in mine an assumed there was at one point another peg cool stuff.

i found a napkin in mine when i changed mine also. and lucky for getting a new drive belt the toyota dealership who my dad took his tacoma to did the same thing but they said they would look and they said there was no damage to the belt so they gave him a free oil change. needless to say we dont go there anymore

This is too bizarre as I also found a napkin in my cabin air filter when I changed it myself for the first time.

What in the world!? That’s three people in this thread who found napkins in their cabin air filters when doing a DYI change….maybe some sort of unofficial TSB that only techs knew ?
