I've got this weird smell in my 2002 4Runner..... I don't smoke but it sure smells like someone did..... I bought it new and all I can say is that it sits in the sun all day and maybe the leather, carpet, dash etc have heated up to a point that they are emitting this smell .... I see no wet spots, I see no mold or mildew ..... I see no left over food or groceries ...... Any ideas?

I was wondering if this model has a cabin filter ... If it does where is it?

no cabin filter on the 3rd gens. If you buy an air freshner that clips on to the vent, maybe you can get rid of the smell for the most part.

You might want to take out all of the seats and shampoo the carpet. Once that smoke smell gets in, it's really hard to get out. You'll probably want to clean the seats, too. There are those "spray bombs" or whatever they're called, that you put in your car and also it goes in the vent system, too. Check with your dealership. I know my friend's BMW dealership had something like that and it got rid of the smell for good (been about 4 years now).

BTW, noticed the S2000 in your sig. Miss mine all the time... :(

I always thought there were cabin filters on the 3rd gen 4runner? what is used to filter the air coming into the cabin then?

If there is a cabin filter in there ... I can't find it ...... Someone told me to pour a little white/clear vinegar in an open cup and let it sit for 24 hours and then air it out for a while ....
