CAD designs for bumpers

alright so i just got autodesk 2014 for free since im a college student :biggrin2: but i dont even know the first step in making one. can i borrow someones and use it as a template or does anyone have a helpful tip? thanks in advance for all this!

no i dont know how to but does it matter that i have the autodesk automotive? is there a tutorial on youtube for the autocad?

I have never used automotive, and someone correct me if I am wrong. But you need to start with the basics and work your way up, pick up a book from B&N (autocad bible is good) Sorry but a template is no good if you still do not know how to use the software. If you want a 4runner template you could buy one online and work with that to make a bumper design.

It took me a while to really get good with autocad, and not using it in 3 years I have forgotten nearly everything.

Learn how to use Autocad and then the templates will be for the suckers. Once you can do the basic stuff, building parts is easy. A template will honestly only slow you down because you won't learn how to get there. Plenty of how to's on Youtube that can get you going right away.

Where do you live? I have taken classes in AutoCAD (last semester actually) as well as my work is in AutoCAD and 3D modeling in SolidWorks. Additionally I could take the measurements of my bumper, which is a custom plate bumper, for you if you wanted. I just did it on the fly with some cardboard and didn't design it in CAD, but if I took the measurements it would probably be easier to just draw it up for you anyhow. Depending on where you live we could meet up so you could look at the bumper and I could give you a quick lesson in AutoCAD, if you wanted. Good luck with the bumper.

If you're that lazy I would recommend just scanning it into the computer and 3-d printing it.

You could sell them a copy of the file..someone else does that on here I believe for his 3rd gen.

I've been using AutoDesk since 1988 v10 and trust me, you'd be better off finding a bumper you like and buy it....trying to accomplish a 'means to an end' your way is futile......ray:

You're lucky, people normally have to pay for this software. And prices aren't the cheap procadeng.com. Anyway, it is a powerful tool for people who are working with architecture and industrial design.
