Calculate the cost of buying an '05 or '06

I spent (wasted?) some time on the KBB site checking prices of various '05 and '06 models with various mileages and buying options.

Roughly here's the lowdown:

Start with a V8 2005 SR5 in "good" condition with 60000 Mi. and towing package, purchased from a private party. Expect to pay $15,900.

Upgrade to "Excellent" condition: add $1,000 across all models and years.
Buy retail from a dealer (no negotiation): add $2,500 across all models and years.
Upgrade to an '05 Sport: $1,185.
Upgrade '05 SR5 or Sport from 60,000 to 50,000 mi: $1,150.
Upgrade from 60,000 to 40,000 mi: $1,775.
Upgrade your 2005 SR5 to a 2006 SR5 depends on mileage:
40K: $1,350, 50K: $750, 60K: $650.
Upgrade your 2005 model Sport to a 2006 Sport depends on mileage:
40K: $1,600, 50K: $1,000, 60K: $900.

I think there are better deals out there, just be patient.
I got my 2005 SR5, V8, 4x4, leather with 27K for $17.600 (at a dealer)
That was about 4 month ago. Truck looks and drive like new.

i just got an 06 certified se titanium with 44k miles for 21.8.

free brakes, tires, alignment for life of vehicle.

a bit over blue book, but i couldn't find ANY, ANYWHERE for months.

it looks brand new. people i have showed pretty much all think it's new.

I can absolutely assure you that it is not. This is 100% true.

Not to offend anyone, but IMO if you pay over book for a car in this economy you're getting ripped. Most of the dealerships asking over book bought their cars in a better economy and are stuck trying to sell at higher prices to avoid the loss. Or if they're lucky, they're praying on people who are used to paying over book for Toyotas and their high margins go somewhat unnoticed in the sea of dealers asking big money who are in the former position.

Here's an 07 Sport that's listed for less than 21K. It's got a little higher mileage and no pics, but it just might be a good deal... you'll never know until you see it.

See my last post for an example in RI. The one I'm talking about was listed at 22,900 and purchased for 20 even in CT.

driving 200 miles and buying a car at a dealer that you'll never return to doesn't seem like a deal.

if you search 07748 you will not see prices anything close to that

Kelly Blue Book quotes $23,065 for an '06 Sport V6 with power seats and sunroof.

Close to the dealer's asking price.

I just bought my brand new leftover 2008 SR5 V8 for under $26K. Window sticker was just under $34K. I think they've even added another $1,000 in rebates for the 2008s since I picked mine up a few weeks ago.

Granted mine is only an SR5 V8, but I still can't see buying a used 4Runner now for over $20K in this economy unless it is super low mileage or completely loaded (or both).

a platnum warrenty and tax and 2.9% financing
i still not shore if i got a good deal or not but i love my truck
