Camping suggestions for Overland Expo

Leaving northeast TN, going to Overland Expo in flagstaff this Wednesday. Im looking for camping near I40 in the area of the Oklahoma/Texas border or the Texas/New Mexico border. Something that looks drastically different than northeast TN. Preferably a ghost town, abandoned gas station or barn. I don't want to camp in a campground, and want to see some dustiness... If that makes sense. The barren look.

Not really much public land in Texas (sigh). If you want dispersed camping you can actually access the Canadian River on US 287 north of Amarillo and drive up and down it and find somewhere to camp. One of the few spots in Texas to truly dispersed camp on public land. I think you need a Texas OHV sticker, but other than that you're good.

The Canadian River outside Amarillo will require an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) sticker. They are like $16 and can be picked up at several places like SHARP'S Motorsports right on I-40.
