Camping trip to Vermillion Cliffs National Monument this weekend - You in?

Hi AZ Folks! We are planning a trip to Vermillion Cliffs National Monument over this coming Memorial Day weekend.

This is more a camping/hiking trip than an offroad trip, though a high-clearance 4wd is needed. This trip is weather dependent – as the roads in the area will be impassable in the event of significant rains. Currently forecast looks good though – generally clear, 70s/low 80s. Sand is the primary obstacle – so bring a shovel.

This will be a dry camp, pack-it-in, pack-it-out trip.

Primary points of interest for this trip include:

White Pocket – see White Pocket - Paria Plateau - Vermilion Cliffs National Monument - Arizona

Buckskin Gulch – see Slot Canyons of the American Southwest - Buckskin Gulch, Utah/Arizona

Coyote Buttes (would require drawing walk-in permits in lottery – TBD)

We were in this area this past October, and it’s truly a spectacular area.

When: May 28th-May 30th
Where: Vermillion Cliffs National Monument – approx 5 ½ hours, 275 miles north of Phoenix

Should be a great trip, particularly for those folks who are photo inclined. If you want to come, please let me know. A meeting place has not been established yet.

WOW that looks awesome. I wish I could go, my parents have a house in Kanab too. Too far for me to make this trip and I'm broke at the moment hahaha. But damn I will make it there someday. Have fun and please post as many pictures as you can when you get back.

We ended up not going on the trip and we'll be scheduling it for a future date. I will post the new date as soon as we know it in case anyone is interested, however it will probably have to wait until summer is mostly over!
