can i fit a 02' sport edition skid plate on my ride?

i want to know if i could buy one of those aluminum front skid plate on the '02 sport edition models. i have a 1999 sr5 model. also i have a brush guard on it, will i have to take it off to put one on?

anyone have pics of both on?

Yes,you can but if you procure one for a Tacoma you'll need to fab up some simple brackets to extend the plate to fit the fatlip bumper. With the brackets that are for the 4Runners the plate is moved too far forward and lower for my taste and I prefer it to "hug" the front bumper so it's not as susceptible to damage being away from the so the Tacoma brackets are a better choice IMO. My friend fabbed up my extender brackets but any shop can easily whoop you up a pair for cheap and then just buy 4 more bolts and nuts and voila you're done.

With a brushguard it will depend on the brushguard since I've seen it done.

On the '96-'98 no fabbing is required with the Tacoma plate which was offered on the previous gen so any from '01-'04 will fit the pre fatlip bumpers perfectly. I had my current skid on my '97 and looked nice.

I have an 04 Tacoma skid plate on mine. It's a 98 (same bumper as yours) and it didn't need any modification or new brackets to fit.

thanks for taking the time to snap pics and uploading them. yea with my brush guard i dont think i can fit the skid plate under it. as of now, i guess i just need to save money for tires and routine maintenence. now if i found one on craigslist or ebay or the fourms selling around 50bucks or less...that'd be a different storry.

Yup, any 01-04 taco plate will work. You could look for a used one, but they might be hard to find. Plus, a used one would probably be stained and wouldn't look as nice IMO.

I bought my skid plate from

2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma Skid Plate Front, Under Engine Brushed Aluminum

It is a bit pricey, but it is brand new and a genuine Toyota piece.

Like he said in his post, you have to have it fabricated.

Yes,it must be fabbed but it's only a simple 3" long rectangle piece with corresponding holes.

I see from the link they've gone up $30 but I see them used every once in a while in the $75 dollar range.
