Can I lock my doors with the truck still running?

I like to leave my truck running and lock the doors with the key fob while I run inside a store for a minute or two. I feel it's better to leave it running than to turn it off and on again, also I can keep the AC running. I have a quick disconnect for the key fob, and would like to leave it running, and lock the doors, but of course my 4Runner is "too smart" for this to happen. Any mods that can be done for this? Couldn't find anything in the searches. Thanks!

ive done it several times, just dont reach in if windows are down and open the door for whatever reason if you locked with the key fob.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to lock and unlock the doors with the key fob, I may be wrong as I don't normally try it myself...

I can't say for certain on the 4th gens, but on my LC and 3rd gen 4R the factory keyless entry was disabled once the vehicle was running.

You could do it the safer way and install a remote starter that has a pit-stop mode (similar to what police cars have on them) that would lock the ignition with the vehicle still running and allow you to remove the key from the ignition. Then you can use the remote-starter key-fob to lock the doors.

While your key is in the ignition, running or not, the fob will not function the lock mode.

That type of system being installed, overrides the factory setup/ programing.

I'll be putting my viper remote starter in soon. Every once in a while, it doesn't connect right away, and don't really want to rely on it. Guess I'll wait until then and crack the windows just in case. At least it will keep the "honest thieves" out.

Can't do with the RKE, but you can use a spare key to lock all the doors with the engine running.

Just get a good remote start system, i have a compustar and i do pit stop modes from time to time. All i do it park the truck, hit my remote start button so it stays running and take the key out.

You can if you have an extra key or the valet key. You can leave the truck running, get out, lock the door with the extra key in the door handle or the rear hatch and do what you need to do. I've done this many times since my 4th gen doesn't have remote start like my 3rd gen did. But more so in the cold mornings warming up for a few mins or now when it's hot and want to make it comfortable for my pregnant wife before we get in to go somewhere.
